The vestibule door is of the same a, and finished with side-lights and tran- -om of French plate glass. The banking-room isa splendid apartment, 26 feet wide, 45 feet deep, and fifteen feet high, lighted by four arched windows of platea glass. The ceiling is superbly frescoed, and exhibits, besides fine flower panels, fourvignettes, representing the escutcheon, pie, commerce, and the arts. ‘The side walls are blocked m stone, and the floor is laid in chequered marble tile. [he three upper stories are splendid saloons, 26 by 100 feet, and are now occupied by the Commer- cial College of Bryant, Stratton, and Walworth. The rooms are entered from D street by a spacious stairway of elegant finish, ash steps, and walnut band-rail. E.S., known of yore ae one of the three famous + Bilis” of Washingten,) thought he would be a bey again and goaskating. So he friskily made his way to the field at Galt’s whart, donned his skates, and struck out to show the boys how he cut ciphers on the ice in child- bood’s years. Pretty soon he came down, ca- spong, upon the portion of his frame that seemed to have been amply cushioned by na- ture to meet just such accidents. The blamed skates were of course at fault, and after duly unkering them, up he got again, striking out more cautiously this time, but with the same result, and almost immediately he was down again on the same place where he got hurt be- fore. This time he took a double purchase on his straps and went in for the third ssay with unabated cheerfulness, but again «* came to grief, as he did many times in suc- sion, greatly to the enjoyment of the rude _ee#, and perhaps, also, of some lady-skaters, gy however, politely snickered in their ffs. But they had to laugh right out when * little dirty-faced cuss halted in frontof S.. who was sitting in his normal position on the ice, tugging at the skates, and shouted, « You ain't got em on right!’ «+ Why, where should they go!” inquired S. anxiously. “Go, why under your coat tails,” (or words to that effect) sung out the sharp boy: and he struck off out of danger, no withstanding S. magnanimously hailed him to come back and get a quarter. —_—_——s— RECOVERY OF STOLEN Goops.—On the 2th of December last the house of Julia Dean, in Marble alley, was entered during the absence at night of the inmates, and about $400 worth of beds, bedding. new carpets, stoves, &c.. were stolen. The case was assigned to Clar- voe and McDevitt, who proceeded to search out the thieves. The goods were at first taken to the stable of McClintock's Express, and sub- sequently removed. The officers went to the house of James Magee, colored, in Marble al- ley, and while the officers were reading the search warrant down stairs, Charity Howard, colored, was engaged in throwing the goods out of an upper window to concealthem. The officers found all the goods belonging to Julia Dean, and a dry goods box filled with blankets, guilts, under-clothing, towels, spreads, and — of linen, said to be the property of ene P. Morgan, who keeps a colored restaurant on 6th street, near Pennsylvania avenue. Magee was taken to police headquarters with the goods. The officers went to the house of Char- ity Howard, and found there, in a chimney, another lotof Juba Dean's goods, and other goods, for which there is no claimant. Super- intendent Richards examined the case last night, and sent the prisoners to jail for court, in default of six hundred dollars bail for each. ——_e——— Tae Levy Covurt.—The Levy Conrt of Washington county will hold its next meeting on next Monday, when it will organize, the Senate having confirmed the appointment ot the President of the-following members: Thos. The idea of illustrating « Paradise Lost” is a novel, yet in the hands of the present man- agers, we doubt not, proves a very successtul one in every sense of the word.
