The performances consist of ringing out melodies on the bells, yoeal, harp, violin, and piano music, and other attractions, form. ing one of the most charming musical ent a of the kind ever presented in Wash- ington. —_—__ Crest Cavren, ALEXANDRIA.—In addi- tion to the regular morning and ey ning ser- Yices at Christ Church on the Sundiy before Christmas, there was a solemn mid tizht ser- viee, closing with the ringing of the bells and the singing of the Gloria in Ezcelsis. There @vere in addition to the communion, Christmas ser- vices, daily services, and sermoas during Christmas week. The services of last Sunday were at Ila. m, 3p.m.and 7% p.m., and vigils at ¥ before Il, closing at midnight. These were well at- tended. The Templars of Washington went downon a special train to participate in the Midnight services. The services consisted of Selections from the prayer-book. exquisite Music, and an abl scourse by Dr. Mc Murdy, the words—“What! could ye not watch With me one hour!” showing the propriety of the vigil, its antiquity, its utility,a d awaken. ing serious and earnest thoughts of devouon, piety, and charity. Ten minutes were spent in Silent prayer, the bell solemnly tolling the old year out. The whole was closed at midnight, by the singing of the midnight lauds, the ring- ing of the bell, and the lights brilliancdy burn- ing. During the services and address the lights were almost extinguished, adding much to the deep impression of the services. Many felt and prayed that this may bea happy and useful year. The church is beautifully trimmed, with a “Hosanna” surmounting the whole chancel, an “Alpha” and an “Omega” on eitherside. “Rex Regum and Dominus Domi- norum, and 1. H. S.,” eonstituting a monogram With & cross, on th pulpit cloth, crowned with “In hoe signo vinces.”” The gas cross and star are in perfect taste. Washington’s pew has the stars and stripes as a coat of arms, and on the wall of the pew are the mottoes, “(Ine country,” «One chureb, Am. Eee, Am. Pat. Lucy Blackwell, enticing prostitution; $5. einen EXECRBITANT CHARG For some time past some hackmen (we are sorry to say) have been practicing the grab game, and several in- stances have recently occurred where passen- gers arriying here on the cars either from the North or by way of the Orange and Alexandria Railroad have been mulcted pretty heavily by hackmen. Recently a lady with two children arrived here on the Orange and Alexandria train, and left the train on ist street, within one square of the depot, and takinga hack for the depot she was driven around several squares and charged $3. Mr. Koontz, and the officers ofthe Baitimore and Obio Railroad, determined ‘with the aid of the police, to break up this sys- tem of extortion. Yesterday morning r. Koontz having occasion to engage a hack for some friends, and on inquiring the fare of Chas, Jobnson, colored, was informed that it was considerably over the le; rates. He imme- diately called officer ‘wer, who arrested Johnson and took him before Justice Walter, when be was also charged with swearing in the street, and tae Justice fined him $5. ees aes Tue Wasnincton Circle ENDORSES THE Fesian SeENATE.— Last night Washingwn (irele of tiie Fenian Brotherhood held a meet- ing. at which there was a very fair attendance of the members. The action of the Fenian Senate was brought before the circle by the introduction of resolutions endorsing the action of the Fenian Senate, and inviting true Irish. men to unite upon the Philadelphia constitu- tion for the government of the Brotherhood. ‘The resolutions elicited very little discussion, Washingion Circle being unanimous in the opinion that with unity, harmony and hearty co-operation their countrymen will be able tu literate Ireland and maintain a republican form of government. The resolutions were adopted almost unanimously, and it was or- dered that a copy be furnished to the Senate, to O Maboney and to the press. AsoTHER Case or Razor CUTTING.—This morning, officer Roth, of the Second Ward, arrested Wm. Lee, colored, charged with assault and battery with intent to kill Wm. Smith, colored. The affair eccurred in Mc- Williams’ restaurant, corner of llth and D streets. where Smith was empldyed as a ser- vant, and Lee had been formerly. Lee went there with @ razor and attacked Smith. Smith took the razor from him; but Lee threw him down. go the razor back, and cut Smith twice. One wound in the back is not very severe, but another on the shoulder is about four inches in length. Lee was taken to the office of Justice Bates, who ordered him to give bail in $100 to #ppear at court, and stand committed in de- fault. ——— Wasuixeton Gas Liont Comrayy.—The annual meeting of the stockholders of this company was held yesterday at its office, No. #3 Tenth street he following gentiemen ‘were unanimously elected directors for the sresent year, viz: William Orme, John Bailey, Ep aor Bartel, Chas. H. Rogers and Henry or J. ¥. Brown, tor the last fifteen years the Secretary of the company, and, since Feb- rusry, i565, its Treasurer also, notified the meeting that, on account of the pressure of his private business, he bad tendered to the board of ectors his resignation, to take effect on the 3st instant.
