We continue to-day our Directory of places where pucbasers in quest of holiday goods can procure them to the best advantage. We sbali continue them trom day to day, and our advertisers who have specialities in the way of goods, suitable to the holiday season should send in their announcements at once so that they may receive notice im our Direc- tory. Urgotstery, Hovss Decorations, Pic- TURES, &C. MARKEITER, 4-6 7th street, whose good taste and artistic eye causes him to be continually ral the alert for any opening for improvement, i been enlarging bis premises, adding ights, tastefal decorations &c., &c.,so that iis ctahihcment would appear now to be as near pertection as possible. His rapidly extending business has necessi- tated this enlargement of his borders, and at the same time he is enabled to indulge his de- sire to have a proper display room for the fine pictures that find their way to his establish- ment So quietly and modestly does Mr. Mark- Tier prosecute his business that very many lovers of the fine arts and who are apt to look for such things at the Avenue establishments, are perhaps not aware that the city’s best in this way is to be found up Seventh street, at Markriter’s. A landscape by Otto Sommers, and another by Wilson. just received, attracts Attention at Markriter’s. They are of the best school of modern Englisb art, and must soon be snapped up by some judicious purchaser. The same may be said of two engravings from Webster's pictures, “Foot-ball,” and “The Shde.” Those familiar with Webster's admir- able pictures, “Ihe Schoolmaster Frowns,” and “The Schoolmaster S.niles,” will not be slow to secure these additional specimens of Unis artist's powers in depicting jnvenile life. Somewhat of the same style is the spirited French picture of boys “Coasting.” A gem is the brunette, “ Black-beaded Eyes,” and its mate, the blonde, « Dew-lit Eyes.” Two other pictures draw crowds of amused visitors— “Courtship” and « Married,” representing the bashful swain coming up awkwardly to the seratch of « popping” to the expectant and de- lighted dulcinea, and the embarrassed swain 8s husband in No. 2 trying awkwardly to soothe howling baby. Two brilliantly colored engravings after Vernet, “Arrival of Rebecca” and « Rebecca at the Well,” deserve notice, a8 also the + Flight of the Swallows,” « Return of the Swallows,” “Fondly Gazing,” (by Meyer, of Dresden, ) “Consolation,” (engraved from Mayer's ce‘ebrated picture,) aad a host which we have not even space to mention. The collection embraces, beside the larger pic- tures, a number of exquisite cabinet pictures, &c., appropriate for most tasteful Christmas Soden such as would have a permanent value, ing the giver always fresh in the memory a receiver. The stock of picture frames to be found here probably surpasses in variety and elegance anything to be found this side of New York, and the purchaser cannot fail to suit bimeeit. In the housefurnishing, paper hanging and upholstery line Markriter has long enjoyed the reputation of taking the Jead in style of execu- tion, promptness and fairness of dealing, and we need only say, therefore, thata house fitted up by Markriter, and adorned with some of arkriter’s pictures, is certaim to be As at- tractive and pleasing as any habitation this side of Elysium. RorHRock. 452 7th street, offers a very large and complete assortment of oval and square picture frames for portraits, wreaths. hair work, &c., together with all requisites of band- Some, tassels, cords, rings, &c. His assortment of paper hangings, window shades, gilt cornice, &c., is unusually large, and worthy the atten- tion of all preparing for house-furnishing. He bes some excellent workmen, and customers never fail to receive the worth of their money. Pia . Music, &c. “ MurzgrottT & open their handsome new salesrooms. The public are al- ready Acquaintefi with the merits of the cele- brated Steinway piano to be found at Metzer- Ott's, so nothing need be said on that head. The handsomely bound music books for sale here afford admirable presents for the holidays, as do the beautiful terra cotta goods, illustra- tive of the siege of and other classic stat- uary, by Prof. Schmidt, of Coburg. These terra cotta represe ms, and which took the gold medal at the London Exhibition, are something so spirited and elegant as to cause them to be eagerly sought for as mantel orna- ments by people of wealth and refinement, and Metzerott has not been able thus far to import fast enongh to supply the demand. The new << music boxes imported by Metzerott, and which perform the most difficult operatic airs with exceeding force and brilliancy, have also created a furore, and are in great demand for Christmas presents, as are also bis imfortitions of unique musical toys for ype little folks. Of the other articles of the great stock at Metzer- ott's, parlor organs, melodeons, violins, flutes, accordeons, &c., &c., the list is much too long for us to enumerate, and we can only advise purchasers to look for themsetves. Jous F, ELtis, 306 Pennsylvania avenue, agent for the ‘world-renowned Chickering — offers for the holidays at very low prices, admirable instruments by these and oth. rated makers, Bradbury's, (Guild's, k's, Emerson't, Vose’s, &e., and also some Of the best sty les ur American parlor organs and melodeons.
