Hoover's grocery, and five other burglaries and robberies, were put upon trial in the ease of T. Z. Hoover. (Frank Curtis and Williams having been before convicted in the Shaw robbery, and Jokn Williams, Mathew Holt, alias bo Prilks, and Thos. Foster, Sie Oe es Tince’s burglary.) Henry ay pecust tion convicted = hag Iarceny of & pocket- contami 000, from Bernard Boernstine, near the ‘railroad depot. The Court, in consideration of the pri- souer’s having disclosed the place where the money was, so that it was recovered, and also bis service in the army fora long time, sen- tenced him to one year in the penitentiary. This morning, the Court overruled the mo- tions of Judge Day for a new trial in the case M. B. Hasford, and of Mr. J... Johnson fora new trial im the case of Isaac Lambert. Chas. Biue, colored, was arraigned and plead not guilty of the larceny of pro) of GC. A. Sengstack and E. Slye. Chas. Blue and Elias Robinson together plead not guilty of the lar- ceny of A. M. Clark's property. Blue, Robin- son and John Walker —— not guilty of the Tobbery of the store of Evan Hughes. Lawler was found guilty of one charge of larceny, and sentenced to ninety days in the county jail. There were four other indict- Ments against this prisoner, in all which a nolle pros. was entered, there being circum- stances which justified this merciful course. _ In the case of Chas. AlJhouse, indicted for assault and battery, anolle pros. was also en- tered. ei Gree Potwer ReEPoRTS.—Second Precinct. — Levi Lewis, larceny of oysters; Edward Hall, pro- fanity; dismissed. Henrietta Dri- ‘ver, disorderly: dismissed. oe PotsontnG Casz.— Wednesday, Mrs. Patrick Delan and her three children, living on Dela- ware avenne, between H and | streets, were Poisoned by a colored servant employed in the damily. Itis said that Mrs. Dolan, preparing aJate dinner, bad cooked the vegetables her- eelf and directed the servant to make some corn bread. There was some arsenic in the house, kept to poison rats, and the servant, it is Supposed, took a quantity and put it in the dough, causing the ser ous illness of the fam- ily. The servant has not been arrested, at the request of the doctor, who fears to excite Mrs. Doian, as excitement at present might prove fatal. Mrs. Dolan was not considered out of danger yesterday. The children, and one child ofa neighbor named Kirby, who also partook of the bread, were considered out of danger. It ‘was & mere accident that Mr. Dolan was not poisoned also. As his family sat down to din- merhe was called outand wentas faras 7th street with a gentleman. Upon his return he found the whole family vomiting and sent for Dr. Herbert, who, seeing the condition of the family, sent tor Dr. Borland to aid him. The ‘Vomiting was not checked till 12 o’clock at night. Tue ExcavatTions.—At the present time, ‘when there are so many excavations in the Streets of the city, the contractors and work- amen should be very careful that the trenches &re well secured against the possibility of ac- cidents to man or beast. In fact,a law of the corporation im: ® fine upon persons for leaving excavations unguarded; and yet per- sens employed on corporation work think elves exempt from the alty when they violate the law. Justice Thompson cor- rected this error in the case of a person who said be would not pey even if fined, because he was an employee of the corporation. He ‘was fined nevertheless, and the fine was su- perceded. The corporation is not anxious to pay damages for the negligence of its em- Ployees, and will hardly justify violations of the law by those who should be most, careful in complying with its requirements. 5+ G4 Sanitary Rerorts.—YXesterday, the sani- tary were principally engaged in serving war- Yants upon those who refused to abate nui- sances after having been notified. Eight per- Sons were fined in sums ranging from &i to $4 wy, Justice Walter; three were dismissed by ‘ustice Thompson. The report of nuisances P boar humbered only fourteen; this morn- they numbered fifty-six. There isa dis- position om the part of citizens, especially old residents, to abate nuisances as soon as possible after being notified, and with them the officers have comparatively little trouble. piece tbat THE ORDER OF THE SUPERINTENDENT OF Pouice.—Last night the potice in the various precincts were specinily directed by Superin- tendent A.C. Richards to strictly enforce the law reqviring all places where liquor is sold to be closed at 12.0’cloek at night, and to report al dousres found open in violation of the law. ga Prayine Detective.—This morning, abeut Ailteen minutes to three o’elock, officer O'Ual- Jagan, of the Fourth Ward, arrested Jacob ‘Creamer and John Harrington for playing mil- itary detective on two soldiers. morning Justice Walter fined Creamer $3 and dismissed Harrington. ——_¢——— Larceny. — Yesterday afternoon, Laura “Wallace, colored, was arrested by officer Boose, of the Second Precinct. for the Jarceny of eer- tain goods, the property ot Henry Briscoe. She “was taken to the station house, and was com- Mitted to jail by Justice Walter. peste SALE. pr yigtee os decree of fee Giventt Coart fer Tipee Geor, county.» asa court of equity, pasred on the 71h day of November, 1855, in 8 cause abereip depending. in which Washingten A.
