From the Jamaica Guardian it the insurrection in that isiand an incendiary publication x Secretary of the Baptist Missionary Society. This document recited in extravagant terms the real and fancied oppressions of the blacks, who held “Underbill con ventions,” and finally iy tee & secret society, called the “African Li ion Society.” One ofthe prime movers and leaders in alt these things was Mr. George William Gordon, a large landed proprietor, and a member of the Jower branch of the Legislature of the county. From every one who became a member of the secret society an oath was extorted as to a pro- muse of secrecy and a combination with them, under pain of immediate death. It is generally believed—says Capt. Atwood, of the Kingston Troop—that these misguided people have been “swearing in” their own class all round the country several months past, and secretly taking the life ofeveryone upon whom bad slightest suspicion of being inconstant. Men were sent for to attend their meetings at the chapel of Stony Gut, and were then and there required to take the oath that had been rep! for them, or told that they would be led if they did not do so at once. Gordon was captured and hung in October, and afterwards a number of the subordinate leaders wereexecuted. Among the treasonable documents recently captured by the authorities in their search since the outbreak in St. Thomas in the East is “A plan of Kingston,” said to have been prepared under the direction of General Lamothe, the Haytien refugee. The plan presente the point at which the city was to be fired—the points to which it was expected the authorities would repair—the points at which the massacre was to commence, and the points at which ts were to be stationed, so &s to cut off the fiight of those who escaped to the roads leading out of the city. The con- spirators were to await thearrival of the troops at the scene of conflagration, and then on a given signal were to seize the camp, the bar~ racks, the arsenal, and the batteries; there was to bave followed @ general massacre in every street, from both ends, every house being en- tered and searched. From all that ean be gathered it appears that the outbreak of Morant Bay was premature. it was to have commenced, according to the best information that can be obtained, on Christmas Eve, and was to have been general throughout the island. More: Anorr Hon. Prestos Kino.— Mr. Charles H. Macy, father of the children who saw Mr. King throw himself into the river, does business in Sixth avenue, in this city. On reading in the papers thatthe party who had jumped overboard was the Collector, this gen- tleman at once sought an interview with Mr. Terwilliger, and gave his version of the story as follows:—When Mr. King first came on board, the children a struck with his appearance and manner, and re- marked toeach other that he was “a funny- looking man.” As soon as the boat left the doc’ oni f observed him take out his handkerchief and wipe his face, and after returning the handkerchief to his pocket, he felt about his breast as if Jooking for something. which is now supposed to haye been a bag of shot that he hung about his neck, underneath his o before going on board. He then took off his hat and Jaid it on the deck; next he walked to- wards the edge of the boat, unfastened the chain, and refastened it after be had passed throngh, and immediately jumped into the river leet downward. The children who were the only parties at the after part of the boat then, gave information to the other passengers, The boat was instantly stopped, but no trace of the unfortunate tleman could be dis- eerned. Mr. 0. J. Brown, who keeps a gun store at No. 19 West street, states that a gentleman answering to Mr. King’s description called at his store about § o'clock on Monda morning, and asked if he bad any lead. 4 was answered no, except in the form of shot. He purchased a bag of shot weighing twenty- five pounde, and placing it in the pocket of his overcoat went away. © very soon return and said he could not carry it in that way. The proprietor then said he would send it to his address, but the gentleman declined, and. asked them to arrange it so that the weight would be equal on each side. It was put into two bags, which were tied together by a cotton cord, passed around his neck, so thatone pag could rest on each breast. He was assisted in this by the person from whom he had bought it, and then buttoning his overcoatso as en< tirely toconceal it, he went away. Dreaging machines were e: all day yesterday in dragging the river in hopes of finding the re but up to a late hour it wasnot recovered. No public demonstration in relation to the melan« choly event will take place until the body is found, or at least until the certainty of his death shall have been ascertained ‘ond even the shadow ofa doubt.
