SPREAD OF THE CATTLE Disease IN ENG. £axp.—The murrain which has for several months been raging amongst cattle in England, bas at last seized also upon sheep, which were at first exempt. No remedy bas yet been dis- | covered for this plague, which is causing con- sternation and distress amongst the farmers. it has been sausfactorily established now, we | believe, that it was not introduced from the continent; that it is highly infectious; that it | May be canght by sheep from cattle, and the | Teverse; thata remedy which is successful in one case will most likely fail altogether in the | next, and pees that complete isolation will mot saveaherd. There have been several in- stances in which valuable herds, carefally isolated in extensive parks, with plenty of s lund food and the best of accommodations— and at a distance from the points where the disease was raging—were attacked, with great oes Amongst the remedies which have been tried, with rather less than more success, are iron rust water, brandy, beer, whisky, port wiue and the cautery. Post BF Gentlemen who have recently been in the neighborhood of FortGaines, Ga., a small town on the Chattahoochee River, in the South- Western part of that State, informs us that the presence of Northern men is peculiarly distaste- ful to the inhabitants of that section. They state that it is really unsafe for a soldier of the United States army, or for a Northern man, to go outin the country any distance, and that some of the residents of that region make a boast that no Yankee shall ever live down there.—Chattanooga Gazette. 87 The New Haven Palladium says: (. Conner bas issued a circular an- nouncing war to the knife against the Indians. ‘The officers conmanding the expedition are or- dered not to leaye a trail, when once struck, until they have overtaken and punished the savages; and, to accomplish this, the command will be supplied with an extra amount of salt with which to preserve game for subsistence, after the regular rations may be exhausted. 87 Cortinas, the Mexican bandit, who fights alternately on one side or the other, as Liber- als or Imperialists pay the best, now has his headquarters on the Texas side of the Rio Grande, and is unmolested, though for years he bas been regarded as an outlaw, and there are many indictments against him for robbery and murder. Races.—At the Paterson (N. J.) course on Thursday the first race was won by Nannie Craddock, the second by Baltimore, and the third by Kentucky. Baltimore was entered by Messrs.
