Criminat Court, Judge Wylie —Yesterday, after our report closed— Charles Rousseau sworn.— Witness is the fatber of the deceased and was on the 24th of November in his shop until 3% o'clock, when his friend Thomas McKee came in and witness jeft with bim for his (McKee’s) house, where be met Mr. Morgan, and then left and went te Mr. Rath’s, on Ist street, between © and D, when some one informed him that he should go bome. As soon as he got in he saw the child in the mother's lap—thinks it was a little after 9 o’clock—full of blood and mud. The mud appeared to be coal ashes and manure mixed with straw. There was ashes om her shoe—grey color. Witness examined a coat in the Carroll Prison three or four days after the ee ee ee The coat was brought in the room and the bundle was opened, when witness saw a dirty shirt which looked as ifit had been washed off with cold water, and the coat with the same composition of manure, ashes, &c., as was on his child’s shoes. Wit- ness saw stains on the wristbands, but did not examine it minutely—he had seen enough. Cross-examined:— Witness took two or three drinks at Mr. McKee’s. Witness was very much excited at the time of seeing the litle child,fand did not ee ee whether her clothes were wet. mud on the pris- oner’s coat was on the lower part and it was « ies. Elizabeth Rousseau, the mother of the de- ceased, was here called for the prosecution. Witness recollects that her daughter left home between 4 and 5 o'clock on the day she was in- jured. to go to her father’s shop. and did not see Tae again until she came home at 9 o'clock. She was very weak and faint, and as good as dead then. and she brought in her hands her little cape and drawers, the latter being bloody allover. Witness had a fire made, and warmed water to wash her Next morning Dr. Ford ‘was sent for. The deceased was taken with convulsions about 4 o'clock, and died about 10 o'clock on Friday night. The blood on the drawers appeared to be dried a little, and wit- ness thought from it that she had been injured some time before. The child's clothes had been washed, but some of thestains were never washed out. » Witness here exhibited a little white flannel skirt with a dark stain on it, and a cape, and ‘Was somewhat agitated as they were opened, causing much feeling in the court. Mr. Wilson here announced that he expected to complete the testimony for the prosecution to-morrow by noon. Tae Wroxc Way to Recover Goops.— Yesterday, Chas. Ossinger and Henry Ossinger, who had been robbed of a = of pants and a blouse, went to the honse o! colored family, on Sth, between N and O streets, to search for the articles. The head of the family protested Against a search, except by an officer with a warrant. One of the UOssingers threatened to blow the colored man’s brains out, and showed a pistol. They were arrested by officer Leach and taken before Justice Thompson, who held them to bail for court. ExcvRsion OF TRE City Covnci.s.—This morning, Messrs. Gulick, Canfield, Turton, Noyes, and T. E. Lioyd (president), of the Board of Aldermen: Messrs. Edmonston, Ham- ilton &nd Wright. of the Common Council; Mr. E. J. Klopfer, Mayor's clerk, and other prom- iment citizens, left on an excursion to Rich- mond. The party were assigned a special car, and were accompanied by Mr. McCafferty, Superintendert of the road. Liat night, at 8 o'clock, Patrick Quirk, who had been arrested by Of- ficer Coombes for stabbing Dennis Blake, at the Navy Yard. was brought before Justice Walter. It appeared by the evidence that Quirk and Biake had a quarrel last Friday morning about the time for going to work, and that Quirk stabbed Blake in the back, near the shoulder. Mr. E.C. Morgan a for the defence, and Justice Walter hele the case un- der advisement unti) the condition of of the wounded man is ascertained. Darinc Roesxery.—About 7 o — last night, a man entered the store o! saac Herz- berg, a licensed pawnbroker, on (©, between 4% and 6th streets, and knocked Mr. H. and his wife down, seized a book containing between $500 and £600, and escaped by the alley from C street to Pennsylvania avenue. The alarm was given, but too late, although the Fourth Ward police were on the spot in a few moments.
