Amoug those whose faces are familiar at Democratic meetings, we noticed Captain w. Geary, T.G. C layton, F. A. Aiken, Hon. Tom Florence, J. W.Clampitt, J. F. Haliday,Sam’l Brereton, E. B. Robinson, John Lakenan, Judge Mason and Dr. Chas. Allen. Judge Mason, in taking the chair, said that at the adjournment of the last meeting it was not expected to meet again under such favora- bie circumstances, but he was giad to see so many familiar faces. He understood that this Tmeeting was called for the transaction of busi- ness and to take steps for the further action ot the association. Mr. Florence tnought it was asource of gratification that so many could meet he: gether to endorse a man who stood upon the broad fundamental principles of our present President. Two elections were to take place to-i Sepia Ss -day,) and there were twoagents here from Pennsylvania whoendorsed the sen- tuments of that eminent man. Andrew Johnson, and they wished to getthe co-operation of this society in securing the votes of the Democratic soldiers. As far as ascertained the soldiers were Democrats, sustaining the humane policy ofthe President in his efforts to restore the Union, and there was not a Democrat who had not feelings of gratitude towards Andrew Jobn- son for the policy he was pursuing. When the association last met to pass resolutions ex- ressive of their feelings at the assassination of President Lincoln they had a*confidence inthe man who was to succeed him that has not been disappointed. He moved the appointment of a committee to draft resolutions expressive of the views of the association in the course pur- sued by the President and a committee to ob- iain a ball for future meetings. Mr. T. G. Clayton rose, as he said, under feelings of more than ordinary reverence, to indorse the motion for the appointment of a committee. Mr. Clayton proceeded to eulogise President Johnson in glowing terms, and con- cluded by urging the appointment of a com- mittee to secure a ball large enough to hold all in Washington, as we wanted them on the democratic platform, as the President was there. Mr. F. A. Aiken thought it refreshing to hear the remarks of his old Democratic friends, but they were losing sight of the main object. He would like to hear from the agents from Penn. sylvania. Mr. A. Noble. Commissioner from hen. Vania, said there would eo aeypeeo tod ory open in this vicinity for the reception of sol- diers’ votes. While traveling around where these polls are to be opened, his opposition friends had treated him kindly, and he did not want many assistants, as he believed there would be a fair poll, as his opponents assured him there should be. A number of gentiemen here came forward and volunteered to assist the agents in getting the votes of the Democratic soldiers, Mr. F. A. Aiken, in a few remarks, intro- duced a series of resolutions, which were adopted. They declare that the Constitution leaves the question of the elective franchise to the several States; that the attempt of the Re- publican party to overthrow is constitu. tional proviso is revolutionary, disloyal, and treasonable; that the doctrine of the Republi- can party which holds that the seceding States bave been actually out of the Union, and that they should be treated as conquered provinces, &c., is utterly at variance with the Constitu- tion: recognizing the President as a statesman able to rise above the trammels of '¥ dicta- tion, and that bis administration of public af- fairs entitles him to cordial support; yon con- gratulating the Connecticut Democrats upon their recent triumph over the Republican par- ty im that State on the issue of negro suffrage. A committee of three was then appointed to secure a ball for the future meetings. Capt. W. Geary made a characteristic s which be pitched into Secretaries kes nton, and Col. John W. Forney. r a few remarks by Mr. Connell. of Ti, ” ing adjourned Ses SS Base Batt Matcn.—The match between the Nationa) Club of this city, and the Excel- siorof Brooklyn, resulted, after a well con- tested game, in the victory of the Nationals. the x The score stood as follows Excersior Nationa. oO.
