Witness was discovered by a Lieutenant and received 25 lashes, after which he was put in the stocks 4 days. It wasa Lieutenant who wast wit- Bess and not the Dutch Captain (Wirz) On eross-examination witness said he tried to get away because he did not receive sufficient tood! Prederick Gazretti testified that on one occa- sion a man was shot and some prisoners asked to goand seehim. Wirz gave permission to witness and two others to go. Never knew ra- tions to be stopped three or four days at a time. The rations were issued to ts of the pads and divided by them with their men. itness described the process of tunnelling; when commenced to dig wells every sec- ond or one struck a tunnel. Wirz ordered him back and went outside. The sentry ordered Ohicka- maugato go back, and he refused, when the sentry shot him. Witness, on the 5th of July, pretended to be dead, and was taken to the dead-house. His body was stripped. Laid at the dead-house with the dead all night; was put in with the bodies next morning; had not strength to take clothes off of one of the bodies; slipped ont of wagon and laid down; heard dogs coming, and Wirz took him to hospital, gave him ashirt and pants, and orde1 him back to the stockade. itness and others were allowed to go in the country and purchase ar- ticles, which they would sell to Wirz, who aid for them. irg once sent @ man back to is regiment for waking a knife from a pri- soner. A number of parties have been arrested for baving in their possession “documents cal- culated to inflame the public mind against the Government.” Thirty-one arrests haye been made in Dublin. &7-A match race between Sea-foam and Tom ‘Yhemb, two crack Portland horses, was an- nounced to take place near that city on Wed- nesday. When the time came for the race to Start it was announced that Sea-foam had been poisoned by the administration of croton oil by some scoundrel, and was dead. The snimal was valued at $1,500, was twelve years old. and owned by D. G. Miller.
