Adjourned Financial. The New York stock market yesterday ebowed a clight downward reaction, the result, Apparently, of a decline in gold and sales to realize profits. The indications are that unless gold should again take an upward turn, tnere will be a halt in the upward movement of prices. Goyernments are rather more active and firmer, the result of the disparity between Prices here and at Lendon. Five-twenties were § better; sixes; of ISS!. rose also ‘3; ten- forties were steady at 109x. States stocks sympathized with the depres- sion of the market. Tenneseee sixes were ene Jower; Missouri sixes rose x; North Carolina sixes closed at 73. Foreign exchange was less active. There is & better supply of commercial bills and the rates tend downward. The leading drawers quote sixty days’ sterling 110%, but good bills can be bought at 110. THe Rvuiinc Passion.—At the time of the occurrence of the recent dreadful explosion in Mobile, Mr. + & Well-known business man, Was seated at dinnerin the Battle Honse. ‘The crash came, and he sprang to his feet, and dashed wildly to wards the main exit of the ho- tel. The window frames were crashing, the glass falling in ail directions, and the crum- bling plaster powdered his dark locks to a snowy whiteness. Badly cut and bruised as he was by these missiles, he gazed caicalating- jy up and down the street fur a moment, and «Men started at full epeed to the telegraph office, screaming, ‘Glass and putty—glass and put- ty—tell—to ship nothing but glass and putty.” After meking this order to nis New Orleans correspondent intelligible to the telegraph op- erator. the gentleman fainted and has eyer since been suffering from brain fever. W@7 The New Orleans Picayune says that many prominent Generals and engineers of the Confederate armies, fer the moment uncasy, or apprebensive for the future, contemplate going to Brazil. where they expect to tind a more independent home and better employ- | ment for their skill and talent. The same movement is contemplated by officers and eu- gineers of the Confederate navy, with whom, personally acquainted as they are with the Brazilian shores, the idea probably originated. @7 The King of Saxony has applied for the extradition of a German named Frederick { Theodor, alias Theodor Seydel, charged with | forging a bill previous to coming te this country The accused is a soldierin Sher- man’s army, and enlisted in the second Mas- | sachusetts regiment. The case is now before the U.S. Commissioner of New York. wa The «Hermitags,”’ the last dwelling place of General Jackson, isin a very dilapidated condition. It was purchased by the State of Tennesee> in i956 for $45,000, Mrs. A. Jackson, ‘widow -f the late proprietor, has appealed to President Johhson for a permanent home at the hermitage. The President referred her pplication to Governor Brownlow. U7" The foreign demand for butter has large- ly increased and stl] continues. In 1361 the exports from January to May were 5,170,402 pounds; for the same period this year, 6,313,227 pounds. The demand is stil) “increasing, and appearances indicate that {t will be permanent, Great Britain ts the chief conspmer, the usual supply to that country trom Breland having largely diminished. @7 A seizure was made by the Boston Cas- tom House officers last week, of several casks ef what purported tu be empty ale bottles, made ofearthen ware, which were found to contain from twelve to fifteen high cost cigars each, so neatly packed that it seemed almost incredible that they could have been placed there without damage. WF The project ofa Brazilian line of mail steamships has fallen through, owing to the parties in New York, who received the con- tract, failing to comply with their agreement. There is not now sufficient time to advertise poned until after another session of Congress. HO" A meeting of the hote] proprietors of ‘Boston was held in that city on Monday, at which it was agreed to reduce the rates of charge fifty per cent. &7 A National Conver.tion of tobacco grow- ers is to be beld in Louisville on the second | ‘Wednesday in September, the principal object of which is to consider the just method of tax- ing tobacco. S27 Jet. Davis’ commission as a frst lieuten- ant of dragoons, signed Andrew Jacksor, Pres- ident, and Lewis Cass. Secretary of War, and dated April 10, \~3i,torank from March 4. 1843, has fallen into the hands of a member of Gov. Ogiesby’s staff. a7 The Fifteenth lars, now en fu) is wilh eighteen hundred men.
