REDUCTION oF THE ARMY —The Army and Navy Journal bas the foliowing expression of opinion upon this important subject: « What will be the size of the future Army | of heceuntry! Ovurown opinionis that, when perfect peace is restored, with Kirby Smithdem conquered, and ali guerrillas hunted, shot, and smoked out of their mountain lairs—even then the army will not fall much, if atall, below 100,000 men. For the present, it will be larger. 125,000, 150,000, 160,000 are the three figures, one or the. other of which will probably be the | original estimate for the new organization. The | War Department designs to reduce the army immediately to a basis of from 125,000 to 150,000 men. The muster-out process will commence soon after the grand review of next week. At first, it will Include all men whose terms ex- | pire prior to October 3ist. Boards will be at once appointed to examine officers who wish to remain in the army. But when wiil this work of mustering out be completed! Procure fresh burnt lime, not that partly air-siacked. The large lumps are best. Tne fine portions and small lumps will not make a wash that will stick well.
