At the first board there was a general inac- tivity. The “bears” showed little disposition to seli short, and the ‘ balis’” showed no dis- position to press immediately the advantage ‘won yesterday in Erie. A lot oftwo thousand shares was “slumped” upon the board, for the purpose, Apparently, of destroying the firm-. Bess created by yesterday’s purchase of ten thovsand shares; but the Jot was taken at 90. It is very clear that the ‘bear’’ party have not the means of resisting thestrong combinations formed against them; and it would appear that they cannot escape from their corner without an unusually severe loss. Government bonds were steady but quiet, operations being held in abeyance until the next arrival from England. Quotations were about the same as yesterday, except on Ten- forties, which advanced 1. Brokers borrow on call at4 to 5 per cent. ; the iatter being the rate on Gov. ernment collaterals. Discounts continue dull. Good paper is tn @emand, but the amount offering is very lim- ited. The best notes are current at 6 per cent.; other grades at 7810 per cent. Foreign exchange is dull. Drawers ask higher rates than buyers are disposed to pay, and there is consequentlya large postpone- ment of remittances. Gold is more active and firmer. Yesterday’s export was larger than anticipated; and this morning purchases have been made for remit- tances abread, im preference to paying the pre- sent rates of exchange. tions for Seven-thirties shows the igi Meery TO BIs TRoors.—J before running Away, the guerrilla leader Mosby issued the | following address to his troops: « Favquigr, April 21, 1865. *tSoldiers: I haye summoned you together for the last time.
