Com- mercial paper is dull at Sali. The stock market opened feverish aud closed steady. Governments are strong, railroad bonds quiet, bank shares dull and petroleum stocks active. Railroad shares are excited, in consequence of the scarcity of stocks, the in- disposition of holders to lend, and the deter- mination of buyers to exact prompt delivery. The Express says : The Goid speculation gained strength as the Gay advanced, and touched the highest point of the morning. The street interest is still very large, and the deliveries are made with great irregularity. One house bought $1,250,000 this morning at the Board for investment. ‘The Gold bonds are very scarce on the street and the demand is steadily increasing. The confidence in these securities has materially increased during the past few days.
