These vessels were yester- day discharging their stores and will be dis- mantled, preparatory to being transferred to the (,uartermaster’s Department of the army, to be used astransports. The recent successes on the Southern coast will relieve a large number of vessels employed on the blockade, and at present there are a large number lying xt the Norfolk Yard unemployed. I: is stated that the Navy Department will transfer quite 3 number to the army and thus save considera- ble sums to the Government, which are now expended in chartering vessels. Mr. R. R. Ross, of, oe bape roe Tperer Inspector of bills, i A. Taever Tesigned, to accept oe in e In- terior Department. Mr. Wm. Mr. Den- Rison is an engineer of much experience, hay- ing been employed as such for twenty years past, under the Ordnance Department of the Army, and he is, also, a thorongh mechanic. ‘While the officers and men of the yard regret that Mr. Welles has left for another field they Will be glad that his place is to be filled by so accomplished an officer as Mr. Dennison. Mr. dD. was introduced to the officers and master ‘workmen, yesterday, by Mr. Welles. Richard Brown, the seaman who was in- derred from the yard on Sunday last, belonged ao the Osceola. He wasa native of Ireland and not of Virginia as has been stated. a Se “TB WORKMEN OF WASHINGTON.” — We re glad to learn that Mr. Ford intends pro- ducing Miss Laura Keene's new play, ‘The Workmen of Washington,” at his beautiful aheater next Monday. It has made a prefound Sensation in each of the cities in which it has been enacted. New York, Boston, Philadel- phia and Baltimore, are unanimous in com- mending it, not only as @ lesson, but the lesson tbat our communities require. It shows to what horrible consequences the apparently innocent babit of “taking a drink” may lead, sand how gradual and imperceptible is the de- Scent to perdition; it exhibits the actualities of dife when the vice of drunkenness has taken possession of the once sober, industrious me- chanic. Mr. Ford is determined to place it on his boards in such & manner as to compete With if not eclipse all other managers. Mr. Lamb, the scenic artist, will paint some fine docal scenes. among which will be found the machine shop at the Navy Yard, with the jJarge steam-engine in motion; the wharf at Seventh street. shqging the Potomac river, the ferry boats, the pitol illuminated,“ ete., etc. The story is most exciting, the moral un- exceptionable, while the play will be cast to the full strength ef Mr. Ford's Baltimore and ‘Washington theatres. In addition, Mr. John Dyott, the New York favorite, Mr. H. Hawk, 8 glorious Irish actor, will appear, and Miss Lavra Keene herself will add to the strength of this really unprecedented cast, and perform the small but interesting part of the drank. ard’s wife. oe REAL Estate Saves.—By J.
