Sa : ‘Tug MONUMENT TO THE ARSENAL VICTIMS, ‘The contractors for the monument to the vic- tims of the Arsenal disaster in June last (Messrs. L. & M. Flannery) have the work well in hand, and should nothing unforseen Occur it will be completed in May next. The model of the statue, « Grief,” which is to sur- mount the shaft, has been made, and they pro- pose tocutit from the stone immediately. In ibe meantime the model can be seen at their | shop on Massachusetts avenue. The foundation has already been Iaid, 0: massive blue rock, six feet deep, which wil! be surmounted by a course of granite rock, finished. On this will be the base, of Baltimore county marble, five feet six inches square and two feet high. From this will rise in just pro- portions the sub-base of Italian marble, and then the die block, on the east and west faces of which will appear the names of the victims: while the front panel will contain a represen- tation of the explosion, with the date, in bas relief. The pediment head has its four faces enriched with the acanthus leaf, the hour glass, and the wings of time. The base is molded, and from this rises the shaft, which is neatly paneled, to correspond with the lower art, and the corners cut to represent crape be molded cap around which is twined the ivy vine surmoovnts the shaft, while the figure of Grief stands on the summit with fingers linked, at a height of twenty-four feet.
