John Thomson to introduce Bryand Strar- ton’s book-keeping into his school, and report his views on the same. - A long debate ensued on this resolution, Mr. Hoimead claiming that the board was estab- lishing a dangerous precedent; that after the text books were adopted they shonid be rigidly adhered to as,.ng as they were on the list as Buch. The reso. ition was adopted. . Mr. Mortagh offered a resolution requesting the Councils to consolidate the offices of secre- tary and treasurer and fix the salary at $1,200: adopted. Adjourned. ———————— Burrat or ConTRAnANDs. — Yesterday morning a lady capnected with the Freedman’s ~— I] Relief Association, applied at the police head- quarters to know where she could haye a child buried, the mother of which ts a contra- ‘tand now lying ina house on Capitol Hiilin a miserable condition and surrounded by many children. The dead child was taken to the door of the police headquarters in a box carried by acolored man. The police gave the lady the proper direction to the contraband camp, on 13th street north, where all such cases are at- tended to. The corporation bury all persons who die without having means for their burial except contrabands, who are buried by order of the officers haying charge of the contraband camp. ° CHARGE OF LARCENY.—Monday night, Wm. Voight, while in the restaurant, corner of D and 12th streets, took his watch out of his pocket and Iaid it on the counter and went away, forgetting it. On returning, a young man named Robert De Bust, who was present ‘when Voight was there, was absent when he returped, and his suspicion rested upon De Bust as the person who took his watch. De Bust was arrested by detective McDevitt and taken before Justice Miller, who held him to bail for further hearing. sa At Her Tricks —Yesterday morning, Officer McColgan noticing Mary Nutrell, a notorious character, passing along the Avenue with a handsome work box, arrested her. On taking her to the station, she was searched, and a lady's fine under garment also taken from her. On inguiry, it was ascertained that the box had been stolen from the room of Miss ‘homas, on Louisiana avenue, and that the other articles belonged to a Miss Butler, living next door.
