Dr. Earle, and others. ee ST Tue Joni_tE®.—The interesting services of the Catbolic Jubilee in St. Aloysius, St. Pat- Ticks and St. Dominicks Churches were con- cluded yesterday. The attendance was very large, the edifices through the day being crowd- ed to their utmost capacity. At St. Aloysius yesterday morning Haydn’s Third Mass was supg and an elegant discourse delivered by Rev. B. A. Maguire. whe wasassisted by Rev. Fathers Wiget, Rockford, and Stonestreet in conducting the retreat. In the afternoon at Vespers Rev John Emig delivered an interest. ing discourse. The choir was aided by Her- mans,of the German Opera, whosang the prayer from the cpera of the«Jewess.” Mrs. Kretch- mar also sang, with fine effect, Rossini’s “Ave Maria.” At seven o'clock the closing exercises of the retreat took place, Rev. Father Maguire preaching an affecting farewell sermon and at the close the baptismal vows were renewed. There were several thousand cemmunicants during the week. At St. Patrick’s the closing exercises of the jubilee and retreat were of a very impressive character. They were conducted by the Rev. Fathers Walter and McCarthy who, during the week, have been engaged daily at the con- fessional about ten hours each. There were ee thousand communicants during the week. At the St. Dominick’s Church the retreat was conducted by Very Rev W. D. Young, Rev. P M. Relph, Rev. J. H. Lynch, Rey. H. Coll, and J. A. Bokel, pastor. During the week there were nearly two thousand communicants. ae Tar THirp Ward ExgmrrTion CLur met Saturday evening at Temperance Hall,on E street, Jobn H. Bartlett, president, and R. Eb. Preston, secretary. The president stated that the asscciatien embraced 271 members, and that out of tbat number 30 had been drafted, 29 of whom had been accepted by the Board of Enreliment. He said that 875 had been paid into the funds of the association, but that there Was not enough money to furnish substitutes for all who hud Leen accepted, and he would levy a further assessment of $25 on each mem- ber. On motion, time was given to the 2istinstant for paying in the above named amount. Twelve substitutes have already been putim, and the otbers will be put in im a few days. oe FUNERAL.—The funeral of the late Samuel E. McElwee took place from his late residence, on 6th street, yesterday afternoon, and was largely attended. The Columbia Typographicai Soctety was our in large numbers, including some of its oldest members, New Jerusalem Lodge of Masons, with delegations of other lodges, also united in the ceremonies. The eer- vices at the house were conducted by Rev. Dr. Keeling, of the Episcopal Churck; after which the cortege proceeded to the Congressional Cemetery, where the remains were interred, after the burial service of the Masons had been read. —_o——_ Larceny Caszs In THE THIRD WarD.— Saturday afterncon, Edward Matthews, col- ored, was arres'ed by Officer Leach for the farceny of $20, the property of G. W. Bender. ‘The case was taken before Justice Thompson, who committed the prisoner to jail for court. John T. Scott was arrested Saturday night for the larceny of a basket containing a quan- tity of sausages, bacon, pig's feet, &c., from | the wagon of Mr. Widdemeyer, batcher, at the | Northern Market. The eviaence against the accused was clear, and Justice Thompson sent him to jail for court. wd McKE&NDRREE CHAPEL — Yesterday Rey.
