‘THE EVENING STAR. Affairs in Georgetown. Tue ELectiow.— Yesterday, the police were vigilant in every precinct to quell the first ap- pearance of riot and disorder. But up to tne Closing ot the polls they had little to do, and the election was conducted very quietly and | ereditably. The challenging on the loyalty question was kept up by both parties during the entire day, and resulted to the avantage of the justices of the peace, who charged ten cents for every oath administered. We have heard ct ne rejected votes. Superintendent Rich- ards, accompanied by detective McDevitt, vis- ited the town, and tound that the police were On their posts. About $4 o’clock the returns the various precincts, as faras the Mayor Was concerned, were received at the Council chamber as follows: _ H. Addison. G. Hin Jr. 148 7 First Precinct. Second Precin 19 68 Third Precinct... ot 116 Fourth Precinct.. 162 7 533 325, Me jcrity tor Addison, 19, The returns ot the Councilmen were not com- pleted, but from what had been reported it was fupposed that the Addison ticket entire had been elected. Strapping Case —Abont 4 o’clock yesterday @namberof young men met at at the office of Justice Reaver to take the oath of allegiance, andcfficers Harper and Sebastian were abused by some of them for the course taken by them b restraining @ riot at the polis. A son of offi- eer Harper being present, defended his father. Mr. E. Thomas ard young Harper were about to come into collission, and it is said retired toward the door. Thomas followed him and stabbed him in the shoulder with a knife, in- Aiicting an ugly wovnd. Thomas was arrest- @c ana taken before Justice Buckey, who re- deased him cn $500 bail for a turther hearing. ANOTHER STABBING CASE —Abont 8 o’clock last night, a man named Benjamin Ogle was cut in the back with a knife, on Bridge street, near Thecker’s restaurant. Ogle could not say who did it, but a young man named Thomas Proby was arrested and taken before Justice Buckey, as one of a party who were pursuing Ogle at the time. It appeared that Ogle was in Thecker’s restaurant when the party arrived, and one. who Ogie said was Proby, callea ont, «Here is Ben Ogle now!” Ogle saw they were after him, and retreated to the door. The party followed, and one struck him with a knife on the back, cutting his clothes severalinches, and inflicting a slight flesh wound just below the jeit shoulder blade. Several persons who were mear at the time testified positively that Proby cid not do it, and that he was not present when at was done. Justice Buckey dismissed the ease.
