Field, the claimant of aseat in Congress from New Grieans, La. was arrested by roundsman Franklin for an assault and battery on Judge Kelly, of Pa,im the hallof Willard’s Hotel. Mr. Field was taken to the station-house, and the ease was ruled for farther hearing. Mr. Field attacked Judge Kelly with a small knife, and inflicted a wound in the back of his hand. There are several accounts given of the affair, one of which is that it grew out of reference made to the Brooks and Sumner affair by Judge Kelly in one of his speeches. Another that it originated at the table at Willards’, where Judge Kelly and some friends were sitting in conversation, and were interrupted by Mr. Field with inquiries relative to his claim fora seat im Congress; that Judge Kelly remarked that be was responsible for his actions, but did not wish to make them the subject of dispute there in the presence of iadies; that Mr. Field retired froma the table, and subsequently, when Judge Kelly made his appearance in the hall, the collision occurred he matter will be investigated by Justice Boswell a PREFENTATION.—On Monday afternoon, an interesting affair, in the shape of a presenta- tion, oceurred at the Female Intermediate achool room. Fourth District. Mr. J. B. Ellis, rrustee, Fourth District, was Made the recipient of a handsome and valuable gold vest chain prrehased at Galt’s, presented by the teachers and pupils of the Fourth Dis- trict, in appreciation of the services of Mr. Edis in behalf of the szhools. The presentation was made in appropaiate terms by Mr. John E. Thompson, teacher of the Male Grammar School; and Mr. Ellis made a very feeling response. = We prrect the attention of our readers to the advertisement of Messrs. Franklin & Co, opticians, whose establishment is amongst the most renowned of its kind in the country, and which is patronized by personages of the high- eststanding. President Lincoln and his lady, the cabinet, Chief Justice Chase, all the lead- ing Department officers and officers of the sig- nal corps have favored Messrs.
