PLE losis THE SEVENTH WARD DRAFT MEETING.—A meeting of citizens of theSeventh Ward was held last night at Potomac Hall, corner 1ith street and Marylandayenue Mr W. Moffat was called to the chairand Mr. W. J. Foster ‘Was elected secretary Mr W.*T. Ford stated that the meeting was called by several citizens, with a view to prompt action relative to the draft. The quota Of the city is apparently wrong, and the citi- zens wish to know how to act. But it seems that they can get no satisfactory information by applying to General Fry. The enrollment is said to be defeetive, and yet we are infermed that, thongh the enrollment may be corrected and the number liable to draft be diminished, that diminution will notreduce the quota. If a citizen applies to General Fry and asks upon what figures he bases the quota, itis very probable he will be treatedas was Mr Larner, of the Third Ward. Mr. Ford thought the best mode of proce- dure, to obtain a satisfactory ans wer, would be to Sepoint & committee to wait upon the Dis- trict Cemmittee in Congress and request them to ask of General Fry the figures upon which the quotas of the city are based, and also to represent to them the grievances of the city. r Ford moved the appointment of a com- mittee for this purpcse Mr. W. H. Magimnis moved to authorize the committee to ask of Congress power for the corporation to levy @ tax on property in the city to meet the demand for money to offer in bounties to volunteers. Mr. Murtagh thought Mr. Ford’s motion a gocd one; but thought it would be better if it secured the co-operation of all the city wards. Mr. Maginnis said that in a mattergo impor- tant the co-operation of the other witas ought to be secured. Mr. Ford said he had been conversing with Aldermtin Noyes, and they had agreed that though it was desirable that the co-operation of the other wards should be obtained, it was best for this ward to act promptly as to its part, and ther call apon the other wards. He ‘would also move thet the commitve be in- structed tocall upon the other wards to ap- point similar committees, and not to wait upon the Congress committee until the other wards shall co-operate. The motions of Mr. Ford were adopted. Messrs. John H. Semmes, W. J. Murtagh, T. E. Lioyd, F A. Boswell and W. T. Ford were appointed upon the committee. - On motion of Mr Bartle, the committee was authorized to call another meeting of the citi- zens of this ward when they deem it necessary, and are prepared to report. ‘ The meeting then adjourned. BEES SS SES Navy YArp.—Every branch of work is now in full operation, and daily there are large mumbers of strangers visiting the various ob- jects of interest in the Yard, among which are @ large number of captured guns, taken at various times during the war. In the labora- tory, under charge of Mr. J. W. Thompson, there are quite a number of hands employed in making and preparing ammunition, and among them are a number of young ladies. The piumbers’ department is also in full blast, under the direction of Mr. W. E. Hutchinson, and the beauty of workmanship of the articles turned out daily attracts the attention of all. A board, consisting of Master C. V. Morris, U.S.N.; Messrs. John H. Peake, Master Painter: ‘Wm. Talbert, Master Ship Carpenter; John E. Harell, Master Mason, has been in session for ~ some days, examining the apprentices ia the various departments. ‘Ihere are from 40 to 50 young men in the Yard, and from this examin- ation it is apparent that many of them have not, while engaged at manual labor during the day, weglected their studies. Those in the Machinists’ departmeat, from which quite a umber of good engineers have been commis- sioned during the war, show marked profi ciency in some studies. Escarep.—Yesterday, about one o'clock, Wm Johnson, colored, who was in the Second Ward station upon a charge of stealing a pair of boots, managed to work out of the station by taking the bricks out of the wall under a barred ‘window, making a hole large enough for him to get his body through by nard squeezing The officers are in searchof him. About seven o’clock last night, James Bruce, who was con- fined in the cells at headquarters upon acharge of robbery of the house of G. A. Springman, meade his escape from a window to which he had access and managed to hoist without alarming the officers in charge. Fortunately tor the ends of justice, the guaras on duty about seven miles from the city, on the Balti- more road, were wide awake, and arrested him while attempting to pass the lines, as & bounty jumper, and brought him to the city. ——»—__- Cuorce Burtprne Lors at AccTion.—J. C. McGuire & Co., Auctioneers, will sell, this evening.at 4 o'clock, eleven choice and beau- tifully located building lots, opposite Douglas Hospital, and fronting respectively on H and I streets north, between 2d and 3d streets west Senators Rice and Douglas paid 30 centsin specie for the lots in 1857, ang they have been well drained by sewers, and"gas has been in- troduced into every lot by the Government.
