The Examiner suys thatthe news from Ten- neseee ‘tis bad,” that Hood’s army has ben “terribly misused and has suffered awtul injo- ry,’ and that paper goes on atacolumn’s length to abuse Jeff Davis for incompetency, obstina- cy, &c., in the management of the campaign. The Whigbasa “grape-vine telegraph” re- port that Breckinridge has defeated Stoneman near Saltville and hopes, but evidently .has no faith that the story is true, “as itis not con- firmed by any official information received at the War Department.” ‘The Dispatch has information that Stoneman has destroyed the valuable lead works of the Confederates, near Wytheville, and that “he has destroyed every bridge on the railroad.” SHERBIDAN’S RAID. Richmond papers of Thursday state that Sheridan, with 3,000 men, had reached Har- riscnburg on Wednesday, on his raiding ex- pedition. ON A RAID. Sheridan's cavalry is off on a grand raid again in the Valley, butin which direction, it would be improper for us to state, at the pres- ent time. THE SCOUT THROUGH FAIRFAX AND LOU- DON CUUNTIE: Yesterday we made mention of & scout through Loudon and Fairfax counties by de- tachments of the Sth, 13th, and 16th Illinois cavalry, all under command of Lieut. Col. Clendenin. . After leaving the camping ground at Fairfax the party immediately moved to White Plains, where they divided into three separate colnmne, oue moving towards Salem, another to Middie- burg. and the other to Rectortown. A party of twenty-five of Mosby’s men passed through Hapwell Gap an hoor in ad- vance of Clendenin, not knowing, however, that a command of cavalry was in pursuit of them. Capt. Corbet, of the Sth Lilinois cavalry, puebed rapidly forward with his detachment, and came upon the enemy, wounding one offi- e-r (Lieut. Cogan) severely, and capturing two prisoners. The lieutenant’s leg being broken, h> ccuid not be brought in, but he was paroled and lett in a house by the roadside. Major Frazer, who had charge of one of the columns, composed of men of the 13th and 16th cavalry, wounded one rebel officer and cap- iured eight prisoners. This wounded officer is supposed to be Major Jobnson, of the 6:h Virginia cavalry. Each detachment had more or less skirmish- ing with small squads of guerrillas, but no larger force than fifty men was seen at any o#e time. The party safely returned to camp on Thure- day evening, having been out three days, and brovght with them quite § large quantity of captured rebel property end fifteen prisoners, TELEGRAPHIO NEWS. ——.—_ From Havan: nd Nassau. Yesterday afternoon, about half-past three o'clock, the mail boat Daniel Webster, Captain Charles Deerixg, which was caught in the ice off Giesboro on Thursday morning, was pullea cut by a tng boat, (after her passengers had walked ashore, among whom was Capt. Wm. Colklesser, Acting Assistant Commissary of Subsistence of the armies operating against Richmond,) but immediately afterwards she ran aground, and is now fast again. The Morris, Osgocd and Seneca, which got fast in the ice at the mouth of the Georgetown and Washington channels, have beer unable as yet to get Joose.
