CONGRESSION. IN THE SENATE yesterday— The Senate adjourned with the close of our repert. In THE Hovsr— ‘The House resumed the consideration of the pill to establish a navy yard for iron-clads at ew London. : Naar. O'Neill, of Pa, resumed his remarks of ester in advocacy of League Island tor thas pisietiee! showing the superior advantages of that point over all others. Mr. Broomall, while giving his preference to League Island, offered a resolution providing | for a board te examine all the sites designated, | with a view to the selection of the best. Mr. Pike, of Maine, moved to lay the whole | subject upon the table. i This was agreed to—yeas, 90; nays, 53. The House proceeded to the consideration of the joint resolution, reported last session by Mr. Elijah Ward, jfrom the Committee on Commerce, authorizing the President to give notice fur the termination of the reciproci- ty treaty with Great Britain, and the ap- pointment of commissioners to negotiate a new treaty, based on the true principles of re- ciprocity. The question pending from last session was om the passage of the resolution. This was re- cons‘dered. Mr. Morrill, of Vermont, offered a substitute tor the resolution, setting forth that the treaty is not reciprocal and satisfactory, and re- questing the president to give notice for its termination. Mr. Morrill’s eubstitute having been agreed faMr. Elijah Ward moved tolay the wnolesub- ‘et upon the table, but this was disagreed to— | 5; nays, -). ‘The original resolution, as amended by Mr. Morrill’s substitute, was then passei—yeas, “6; pays, 57. L. FROM NASHVILLE. The Re els Still pressingjin—The Princi- | pal Batteries 15 miles below Nashville— The Cannonading Subsiding—Jeff Davis Instructs Heod to go into Nashville or into Hell. {From the Nashville Union, Dec. The rebels areevidently in force front, any stories of rebel sympathizers to the contrary notwithstanding. Reconnoissances were made at several points yesterday along our lines, Ana there was every evidence that a strong line was established at every post. At several places the rebels made demonstra- tions, driviwg in our pickets. A number cf houses immediate'y in our front, were set on re by the rebels, to give them a better view of our works. Weare unable to givethe names | of the property holders whohayeeuttered from | these depredations, but know that the houses consumed were some of the costliestin the vi- eimity. The rebel pickets, at a number of places, are eearer than before, which would indicate that Hood was intending to make an assault upon our works. It is said that Jeff. Davis instructed Hood to go into Nashville or into hell; but this is only a | yamor, and we do not vouch, for its truth. Onur gunboats haye been engaging the rebel batteries on the river, occasionally, but no serious demonstration has been made against themas yet. Hood evidentally thinks that it is quite important that the river sbould be blockaded. The principal batteries are some some fitteen miles below the city by water, fnd seven or eight by land. The cannonading, yesterday, did not amount tomuch, and elicited a few replies. It was all done at jong range, and merely intended asafeeler. It is such as always occars when two bostile armies contronteach other. There is, perhaps, less firing than is usual, under the | circumstances. FINANCIAL.—The New York Postof lasteve- | ning says | i | The only topic of importance in Wall street to-day is the advancing price and increasing demand from country investors of small means tor gold bearing bonas. This is duein part to the belief that except to subscribers for the | new seven-thirties no more gold bonds will be | issued Gold is unusually quiet to-day. The price | has fluctuated between 233 and at 236, closing | at 235). | The loan market is less active. A few ex- | c*ptional transactions are reported at 6, but tne current rate for call loans on miscelianeons | securities is 7 percent. Ot commercial paper | the supply is small, the rate being 7a9. | The stock market opened firm and closed | dull. Governments are in active demand at advancing quotations. Kailroad bonds are firm, coal stocks quiet, mining shares active, and railroad shares steady. Bank shares are advancing, on pernicious rumors that these in- stitutions are about to sell their specie and di- vide their surplus among the stockholders. The New York Commercial Advertiser says: The stock market shows more activity this | torping, but still continues to a large extentat broker's matket. The speculation in Gov- | ernments continues active, and prices are stronger. Sixes of “ladvanced °,: five-twen- | ties, ¥. and ten-forties were strong at the clo- | sing price of yesterday. Seven-thirties were | py lower. Railroad bonds were more active and steady. | Bank shares were in demand, and a suade higher. The miscellaneous list was generally strong, and showed more speculative feeling than rail- roads, which do not appear to improve as the period comes for making up their annual ex. bibit. ALEXANDRIA AFFAIRS.—The Virginia State Journal says: 4 We learn from an undoubted source that Kin- cheloe’s band of guerrillas have recently been disbanded by an order trom their Captain, in consequence of an order from the War Depart- | ment at Richmond having been received by | him, directing him to join the i5th Virginia cavalry with his command. This company of Kinchelee’s was organized as an independent one, and when the order above referred to came to hand, the men refused to comply to it, and | aster Kincheloe had dimself twice applied to | the authorities for A revocation of une order, the | men took the matter into their own bands, and | disbanded. They preferred tolead the reckless | life of guerrillas to serving as regalars ander General Lee. They are scattered through Prince William anda part of Fairfax Coun- lies, each man retaining his arms, and acting entirely independent of the others, at all times prepared to act the part of highway robbers, Or in conjunction with others of the band com- mit more desperate outrages. A man by the name of Purcell, a desperate character, an old associate with these men, and formerly Deputy Sherif of Prince William County, is endea wer- Ing to reorganize them, apd we may possibly bear from him in 4 few days, on the guerrilla War path. A bill has been reported from the Committee on Banks, in the House of Delegates, authori- zing the establishment of a National Baok in | our city. This isanexcellent move. and the | benefit of snch an institution will ps immedi- | ately felt by our people us The connties oi Berkely and Jetlerson in Virginia have submitted to their citizens, the question of uniting with the New State of West Virginia as per provisions of the con- stitution of the State, and the majority of the votes being in favor of such Union, Gov.
