Hamilton, of very in- temperate babits, was wicked up by the Third Ward police so drunk ari thinly clad that had she not been taken to oe station house it is possible the coroner would have been required | to attend her this morning. During the night | abe atrempied, or feigned an attempt, to hang hereelt in the cell, but was prevented from doing herself any harm. She has several times een sent !o the workhouse from that station bouee, and fully calculated upon “going the voyage” this morning. Unfortunately, the @olored boy who attends to the cleaning and arranging of the celis afforded her an eppor- tunity which she profited by and escaped, baretooted, bareheaded aod almost naked. Upon all former occasions, when sent to the ‘workhoure. some person appeared to pay her tine and release her, showing that intemperate as sheis she is not altogether friendless. He was taken before Justice Giberson, and he there stated that he was a deserter from Rich- mond and had taken the oath of allegiance. Before starting his wite gave S200 in rebel pency for ten of these notes and sewed them n his shirt collar. Since he had been in the Union lines he had spent twoof them. The noes were only changed by pasting the figures 10 over the 1 at the corner. He had spent two dollars of the change he received from Mr. Mixscn and returned thebalance. He was eaptured by the aid of the yuck shop keepers on 7th street, to whom the articles were,seld. Pawn tickets for clothing were found on him. Heis now held by Super intenvent Richards for further investi; and portions of the property are now at the police headguarters to be identified. The detectives also arrested Nancy Gaines, Acolored servant in the house of M. Lullay, 490 K street, for robbing the house of clothing | and jewelry. The police immediately dispersed them, and officer Johnson of the 3d Ward canghtone, named Engene Jacobs, and took him before Justice Thompson. It could not be proved thathe was throwing stones, and the justice dismissed him with some good advice.
