Persons desiring and qualified to enlistin the Istarmy corps, General Hancok command- | ing, under General Orders, No. 257, current series, from this office, are hereby anthorized | to present themselves at any United States district provost marsbal, who, if the applicant | or party be qualified, will furnish 4 free trans- portation pass to Washington, D.C., where recruits will be duly enlisted and mustered into the service of the United States. The ap- licant must satisfy the provost marshal that | e is an able-bodied man, fit for military ser- vice, and that he bas been nonoraoly dis- | charged after the expiration of two years’ ser- | vice, by exhibiting his discharge, or, in the necessary absence of that paper, by presenting such other evidence asthe provost marshal may require, it | No person will be forwarded until he has | satisfied the provost marshal that he is acting ig good faith, witha view to enlistment. In | case of doubt as to his physical fitness, he will not be forwarded until he shall have been cer- tified to be fit by the surgeon of the Board of Enroliment, which certiticate shall be retained by the provost marshal, and a copy forwarded to the Adjutant General by the provost mar- War D | | | Surgeons of the Board of Enrollment shall | examine any applicant sent to them by the | provost marshal, and give 4 certificate as to his fitness for military service; and any sur- geon refusing or neglecting to make such ex- amination will be dismissed. All enlistments and masters will be made | At the rendezvous near Washington by the | corps commissary of musters and his assist- | ants especially assigned to that duty, and in accordance with the recruiting and mustering | Tregniations of the army. | Recruits will be credited tothe district In which they or their families are domiciled. As | evidence of the place of domicile the affidavit | of the recruit will be required. Ifit shall sub- | sequently be ascertained that the place of dom- icile bas not been correctly given, the credit will be taken from the place to which it was | erroneously assigned and transferred to the proper place of domicil of the recruit. Credits will be reported as for an army corps in the fleld, and as directed in Circular No. 52, current series, from this office. ORGANIZATION. If. The organization of the corps will be by successive regiments; that is, one regiment muat be fully recruited before another oneis com- | menced. Each regiment will be recruited in | like manner, by successive companies. Congress, by an act passed at its last session placed a considerable sum of money at the disposal of the Secretary of the Treamiry, to be employed inthe prosecution of measures for the detestion and panishment of persons engaged in counter- feiting Treasury notes, fractional currenoy, and other securities of the United States.
