eee PROPOSALS, THE EVENING STAR. LOCAL NEWs. GroRGETOWN Councis, Sept. 9.—Board of Aldermen—An adjourned meeting of the Georgetown Covncils was held last night in the custom-house at the usual hour. In the Board of Aldermen, & communication ‘was received from the Mayor enclosing the Bpplication of H. B. Walker for putting a rail- ing on Washington street, in front of the Payne property. Referred to Board of Com- mon Council. Also, # communication enclosing a circular from the Treasury Department concerning the monthly (8x in banking houses. Read and Jaid on the table, Mr. Berrv, *; whom was referred the reso- tution for the appointment of a harbor master, reported the same back, with the recommenda- tion that the salary be fixed at $33 instead of $50 per month. The report was accepted and the bill passed. ‘The Council returned the resolution affixing the price for the cording of firewood and the measurement of tan bark with their approval or the same. At the request of the Board of Common Coun- cil, it was agreed that when this board adjourn it be until next Friday evening. The Council returned the bill in relation to the warehouse market, with a substitute for the same affixing the limits of the market. The substitute was accepted and the bill paseed. The Council resolution to pay certain claims ‘Was passed, and the board adjourned. Common Council.—A communication from the Water Commissioner relative to the necessity for the location of a fire-plug near the new market; also, relative to breaks in the embank- ments on the upper river road; bills of T. A. Lazenby, for oil, &c,; J.C. Hieston & Oo., for eoal; John Morphy, for a new cart: a commu- nication from the Street Commissioner relative te the new road from Fayette street to the Stone House; a petition from the Inspector of Fire Engines, asking for relief in the discharge of certain duties, were read and appropriately Teferred. Mr. Collins, from the ways and means com- mittee, reported that the committee had tried to ascertain whether the police force of the town could be reduced, but circumstances prevented at present. The committee were granted fur- ther time. A message from the Mayor, transmitting a bill of H. B. Walker, for erecting a fence in front of the Payne property, was read and laid on the table. Mr. Hill, from the market committee, repertea & substitute for the Aldermen’s bill iz ‘ent of stalls, and the limits of the market in and around the Warehouse market- honse. Adopted. Mr. English, from the Poor and Work House committee, reported a resolution for the pay- ment of the bills of J.C. Hieston & Co. and John Murphy. Adopted. On motion of Dr. Cragin, it was resolved (the Aldermen concurring) that when the Boards adjourn, it shall be till next Friday, at the usual hour.
