Orzsine or Bips ror Tam NartionxaL Loan,—Yesterday at noon, the work of open- ing the sealed offers for bids of the United States loan to the amount of about $31,590,000, being the unaccepted offers under the notice of proposals for the loan, dated June last, was commenced at the Treasury Department by Secretary Fessenden. These bonds bear an annual interest of 6 per cent., payable semi annually in coin, and are redeemable after the 30th of June, 1851. ‘The bids received at the Department number | about S00, or 165 more than when the loan was | heretofore in competition. Greene, writing to the Navy De- partment from the head quarters of the Eastern Gulf Blockading Squadron, Key West, under date of August Sth, records a series of success- ful boat expeditions trom the United States bark J. L. Davis, Acting Master W. N. Gris- wold, commanding on the station at Tampa Bay. ‘The ‘first was made on the llth of July, and resulted in the destruction of some salt works belonging to strong secessionists of Tampa— Messrs. Haygood and Carter. The works had been employed by the rebel authorities for some time, and were fitted with pumps, vats, and eight boilers, and produced about 150 bushels of salt per day. The second was made on the 16th of August to the factory of another strong rebel, named McCloud, containing four boilers, with all the appliances, tools, &c., necessary for the bust- ness, all of which were destroyea. The third expedition was made on the 2d, 3d, and 4th of August, by the tender schooner Stonewall, attached to the J. L. Davis, and commanded by Acting Master Henry A. Car- ter, the commanding efficer of the Davis, with his gig’s crew ofaix menaccompanying. Pro- ceeding up the Manitee river to the town of the same name, a8 large saw and grist mill with its steam engine and fixtures was completely destroyed. Learning here that about three miles up the river was &sugar mill belonging to Jefferson Terrible Accident the Pe Railroad. The affair occurred as the police were about relieving guard, and no arrests were made. —_—>__ INTERNAL RBVENUE.—Henry O. Noyes has sold to the rebel Commissary Departnent. Af- ter breaking as much of the machinery as was possible with the force at hand, loaded shells ‘were placed in various parts of the engine and the building fired. The shells exploded and the factory was burned to the ground. These expeditions, without loss of life or limb, show a very commendable spirit on the part of the officers and men who took part in them. REBEL EXEMPTION FROM MILITARY DUTY, It appears from the following exemption founa upon the person of a Southern refugee, that mechanics and macufacturers of certain implements are exempt from military duty in rebeldom. Although this form bears ‘date of 1862, they are yet issued, as refugees who came within our lines during the past week have them of recent dates in their possession.
