LOCAL NEWS. AMUSEMENTS TO-NIGHT. ELLinorr & Foors's troupe of dwarfs, mu- sicians, and vocalists, limit their entertain- ments here to to-night, and to-morrow after. noon and night. Odd Fellows’ Hall will no <dowbt be crowded on these two occasions. On to-morrow night Commedore Foote will take a benefit, when he will distribute a picture of himself, by way of & remembrance, to each lady present. A visit to the Hall to-night will be well repaid Forp’s THEATER.—Mr. W. J. Florence takes = benefit to-night, and his popularity with all theater goers in this city will ne doubt insure him a fall-house. The bill is the comedietta of «The Irish Lion,” the protean burletta of the «Young Actress,” and the laughable piece of «Lord Fianiga: The bill is one of the most amusing that could be offered. CANTERBURY was well filled again last night with a gay and happy crowd. The bill per- formed was one of the best of the season. est, Mulligan, Emmerson, and Williams are among the best Ethiopians on the stage, while the sipgets and dancing cannot be excelled any where in @ concert hall. Another good night to-night. FRUIT FesTIVAL.—Do not forget the delight- tul Fair and Festival at the Union League Rooms, under the auspices of the ladies of 9th street Methodist Protestant Church. ees MEETING of THE DEMOCRATIC ASSOCIATION.— New Converts taken in—Captain Wm. J. Geary on the anzious bench—Capt. Henry A. Scheetz,ex Provost Marshal, taken in—He is an Egyptian Brick—The more you tighten him the bigger he gets—Mr. Geary in favor of allowing the Eleventh hour disciples the run of the Kitchen. The National Democratic Association held an adjourned meeting last night. The meeting ‘was ealled for7 o'clock at which hour it was proposed to fling ont their campaign flag. The ‘unterrified did not come to time, and it was nearly 7% before acufficient crowd was in at- tendance to warrant the calling of the delega- tion to order. J. F. Haliday presided, and James S. Holland acted as Seeretary. As soon ae the temporary organization had been effected a motion was made that those in attendance adjourn to the street for the ptr- pose of seeing the flag flung to the breeze. The crowd started, but before one half of them could get down street a cheer was heard, and it was found that the banner was floating. ‘Three cheers were given as soon as it appeared. ‘The flag is a Jarge and handsome one, and bears the names of McCleilan and Pendleton. It is Suspended over the middle of Pennsylvania Avenue, between the Metropolitan Hotel and the rooms of the Association. As soon as the fing was flung out all present Teassembled in the hall, and belated members began to come in until a tolerable audience ‘was in attendance. Messrs. John F. Pick, Richard A. Cronin. ‘W.-M. Lioyd, H. C. Mudd, H. Polkinhorn, Sr., H. Polkinhora, Jr. John W. Curtain, John H. Russell, John P. Hammond, and Capt. Wm. Geary were proposed and elected members. ‘The name of the latter was proposed by Justice Clayton, and as soonas he had been elected he ‘Was called upon fora speech, and after some hesitation he appeared upon the stand. He said it was the first time thathe had stood upon a Democratic platform. fap: plause.} He had done all things in politics consistent with honesty and truth, and had heretofore done all he could to beat the Demo- cratic party ; and had stood shoulder to shoul- der with the membersof the old Whig party. He wanted ove thing understood, that as against the Republican Administration he was for George B. McOlellan. [Applause.] At November he had a vote, and was bound to sock itin for McClellan. {Applause.} He (the speaker) did not preach treason, and ‘Would do nothing against the best interests of the Government, but he would say to the Chronicle man that the ides of November were coming; and they would follow the ides ot March; and it would be a damn big march for the Chronicie’s party. (Applause.}] He was here to-night to salute the flag of his country, a flag for which be had smelt gunpowder on the battle field. He had pledged himself to fight for the constituted authorities of the gov- ernment, and had risked his life for that and the flag, but not to save any d—dnigger. [Ap- plause.} Capt. Geary said he had read an ar- ticle in the Chronicle about Little Mac. He ‘Wished the writer had stood with him (the speaker) on the the banks of the Chickahominy when McClellan prayed for buttwo hours of daylight when he would have been in the in- trenchmentsof Richmond. [Applause.] Geo. B. McClellan had at this day more honesty of purpose and devotion to the constitution than a@py rooster who walks around the country. {Laughter and applause} In conclusion he urged allto work hardand secure a victory in November, and (said the speaker) when Little Mac rides under this fiag to the White House, maybe I wont holler. and maybe I wont take abig drink. [Applause.}] Three cheers were then given for Little Mae. Justice Clayton here took the stand, and urged upon all the faithful to contribute of their means, in order that the celebration on the 17th instant might be got up in a proper manner. R. 8S. Davis, Esq., was called upon fora Speech, butexcused himself on accountofa sore throat. Messrs Fred. Ellenbrook, Jas. S. Piper, J. Caldwell, and John H. Tucker, were proposed and elected members. On motion of Mr. Schmidt, the finance com- mittee was authorized to appoint ward com- Tittees to make collections for the celebration on she 17th inst Some one proposed the name of Capt. Henry A. Scheetz for membership, and at the same tame proposed three cheers for him, which were faintly given. Mr. J. D. Lakenan said whenever he saw one with a character like Capt. Scheetz, who ‘would come out beldly and avow his princi- ples he should be honored. Capt. Scheetz was @ martyr to the LincolIndynasty. [Applanse.] He (Mr. Lakenan) was astonisbed at Capt. S.’3 moral courage. H+ has asserted his indepen- dence, as an imdependen® man, against this retended monarchy. (Applause) Captain heetz is like an Egyptian brick, the more you press it the larger it gets. (I.aughter and ap- piauee } Captain Scheets was here called upon for a speech, but did not respond. The name of R. M. A. Fenwick was the proposer announcing that Mr. deputy provost marshal. (Cheers. r. James Maguire said this thing of electing members by wholesale ought to be stopped until they come up and pay their fees. The Chair (Mr. Haliday) said it was pre- sumed all who had been elected would pay their fees, and on that account they should not stop electing members. ‘A number of newly elected members came forward and shelled out greenbacks.} Toposed, PY. was a Messrs, Thomas Altemus, John E. Neale, | Henry H. Dudley, Edward Trimble, Wm. U. Harvey, George T. Finnagan, Edward Smith, Charles P. Gautier, and Jos. Kidwell, were elected members. The following were announced as the ward committees to coliect moneys for the 17th of September celebration, viz:—First ward, Wm. er and Terrence Drury; Second ward, J.S. Clark, Jvo. On motion of Mr. Ennis, theendorsement by the Association of the nominations at Chicago °was ordered to be placed upon the minutes. Capt. Geary said he wished to give the As- sociation 8 little advice. He had heard some- ihing about new members and latter-day saints. He hoped nothing more would be beard about them. They should get all inthat they could, even if they came from beyond the Alleghanies. [Applanse.) It mattered not what a man’s antecedents were; if he was a good McOlellan man he was entitled to fall Tellowship. (Applause.) The Association then transacted some routine business and aajourned. de ALEXANDSIA Avvrains.—To be Ezecuted.— Sergeant E. Conley, Co.
