LOCAL NEW AMUSEMENTS TO.NIGHT ELLINGER AND Foors, the dwarfs, the vo- calists and the musicians, give another of their splendid entertainments to-night at Odd Fel- jows’ Hall. The little folks should all see these diminutive specimens of humanity—Uol. Small, Com. Foete and Miss Eliza Nestel—and persons of a larger growth can well enjoy the entertainment. Cantexsury—West, Mulligan and Wil- liams, with their Ethiopian eccentricities; Sal- jie Sunderiand and Agnes Sunderland, with their sweet songs, and the troupe of pretty girls who big pape nightly in gracetul dance, con- tinue to be a source of immense attraction at Canterbury Hali. ‘VARIETIES._The revival of the drama of «Uncle Tom’s Cabin” has filled the Varieties ball each right with a delighted audience. The cast isa good one, and, besides, the regular concert hall entertainment is given. gs ag tee Livery NicHT rn HOOKER’Ss Division —The 2d Ward police were kept busy last night in Hooker's division making arrests fer disorderly conduct. The first party taken was a company of ten young clerks, who were marching about the streets at 10 o'clock singing, or rather roaring, varions bibulous songs. After marching around, followed by Sergeant Tait, — of the police, they brought up im front of the notorious “Iron Door,” on 12th, near © street. The Sergeant was unable to capture the entire squad alone, butsome citizens arrived on the spot and assisted the Sergeant in capturing 51x ofthe party, who were taken to the station house and released on collateral security to appear at 8 o'clock this morning. None of them appeared, and Justice Clayton assessed the fine at $2each. Ata later hour 8 party of teamsters and others had a free fight near the 12th street bridge. They were notarrested, but had their fight out and left before the police could rally upon them. The next squad of screamers was at the notorious den of Madam Angusta, colored, on 13th, near ©, where, the Madam being absent from the city, the colored fancy lodgers there had a quarrel about three o'clock this morning, which resulted in a hur- Ticane of oaths and epithets peculiar to the grade of females in the house, and which dis- tarbed the repose of the quiet neighbors. The police charged upon the house and captured all in it, seven colored girls and a white sol- dier. Thesoldier was dismissed, he being in bed and asleep when arrested; but the girls were fined $1 each. nian ed NATIONAL Rirtges.—The National Rifles, Capt. W. G. Moore, metlast evening for drill at their armory in Woodward's Hall The at- tendance was good, and the drill gave evidence of much improvement under the faithfal in- struction of its popular officers. The object of this organization is to build up & company composed of young men of the city for such service as shall best serve their coun- try, and we heartily commend it tofayor. It is certainly, because of its local character, an organization to which the young men of Wash- ington should not hesitate to attach themselves. ‘The several departments of the General Gov- ernment have their military organizations, and Jocal pride should dictate that the city have at jeast one efficient regiment The National Ri- fies forms an excellent nucleus, and our patri- otic young menshould by joining themselves, and by influencing others, keep up its ranks, and when they are filled form another com- pany, and yet another, until at least a battalion ds formed. — Sons oy TEMrERANCE.—This order has in- creased much of late in this city, especially pimong military men. In the army hospitals the interest in the temperance cause has been Tapidiy and largely developed withina tew weeks. There are several flourishing divisions therein. Among them are thoseat Emory, Ar- mory Square, Lincoln, and Judiciary Square. A few weeks ago a movement was put on foot to create a divison at either the Douglas or Stanton Hospital, the members to be composed of both. The movement has been highly suc- eessfol, resulting in the organization, at the Douglas Hospital, of a large division, com- pesed of inmates of both Douglas and Stanton Hospitals, and officers were elected. peepee Tue ErenTEENTH MASSACHUSETTS REGI- MENT.—The Isth Mass. regiment, Lieut. Col. ‘White commanding, passed through the city yesterday afternoon, on their way home, their term of service having expired. These men have been in active service since the com- mencement of the war, and the tattered flag they bore with them attested that they had net shrank from duty. Of the old members of the Tegiment only about three hundred are left, the remainder having been killed or wounded. The regiment wore on its passage through the city the handsome uniform presented it by the American residents of Paris. SNE Sane More HunpDRED Days Men ReTuRNING.— The 147th Ohio, Col. P. F. Rosson command- ing—hundred days men—passed through the city about 10 0’clock yesterday morning.on their way home. The regiment, in passing, paid their compliments to the President, who re- sponded in a short address, thanking them for the services they had rendered their country and exhorting them to resist every influence that had a tendency to lessen their patriotism. This regiment was in the late skirmish in front of Fort Stevens—sustaining no loss, however, of consequence. eee aes THE TREASURY CLERES REGIMENT.—This Yegiment, which is composed of clerks em- LE bs in the Treasury Department, had a drill and dress parade on Monday afternoon, on the mall south of the Presidentiat Mansion. They Were fully uniformed, and numbered over 900 Tuskets. They intended parading through the city, but the furious rain storm that came up ahont4 o’clock prevented this part of the srrogramme being carried ont. As it was, the ‘egiment got a good drenching, as did also a number of ladies and others who had assem- bled to witness the drill. ge TRUSTEES oF PUBLIC ScHOoLS.—An ad- journed meeting of the Board was called for yesterday afternoon. The Board was called to order by Mayor Wallach, and upon the calling of the roll only the following members ap- peered viz: Messrs. Miller, Wilson, Hitz, Vight, Walsh, and Ferguson—no quoram, and the Board adjourned to meet next Tuesday evening. The applications of Miss Maria L. Parker, of East Hartford, Connecticut, and of Miss Sample, for teacherships, were handed to Secretary. cee RE FovrtH WARD Station Oases,—H. A. Winfield, fighting: $5.64.
