McCann stabbed McSherry with a knife. They | were in & boat together, and McCann accused | McSherry of talking about him. MeSherry de- | nied it. McCann ordered Mesherry to leaye the boat; but McSherry did not move fast enough to suit McCann, who drew a long, ugly Spanish dirk, and advanced upon him. ‘The sightot the knife sickened MeSherry, who backed off. McCann strack at him, and he threw up his left arm, and the knife entered near the elbow joint, and bree on the bone. The point, a quarter of an inch, remains in the arm, and could not be extracted by the sur- geons who were called upon to operate. Curtin, opposite Stanton Hospital, and om the way-he met with ten men who appeared to be sociably disposed, and he invited them to take a drink with him at Curtin’s. Then, after drinking, , his companions attacked him. The light was | extinguished, and he was knocked down and | very badly beaten. Robinson called for the | guard, and Sergt. Bellinger and Corporal Bal- well went to bis aid, and arrested Jno. Lyons, Thomas Kelly, Jonu Driscoll, Thomas Shea- han, and Edward Weich. identified by Robinson as the man who first struck him, and the others were identified as ofthe party. After the arrest Sergt.
