Drop in to- might and sid the cause. tet tices Tue Brown-Witey UasE.—In the Uircuit Court yesterday, the case of Emily F. Wiley against Marshal Brown was continued before Judge Wylie: Wm. Slade. (colored,) sworn.—Testified to having lived in the Brown family for years, and to Tillotson keeping company with Mrs. #rown. On one occasion Mrs. B. said that if ‘Tillotson did not treat her better she would deave him. Mrs. Brown also said that Tillot- zon treated her daughter (Emily) as well as it had been his own. Witness recellects that ‘when the boys (Tillotson and Marshal Brown) “were going to schoo! in Alexandria, that they “usually came up aboutoncea month. To the best of witness’s knowledge Tillotson did not cmake the acquaintance of Mrs. Brown until he lived in the B street house. drs. Wheeler, sworn, and testified that Mrs. Brown told her -hat Emily was the child of Dr. Miller, of Baltimore. Justice Wm, Thomson, recalled.— Witness said ‘that in his testimony of that he had collected a bill from Elizabeth {Phillips or Read, when she lived on the sonth side of B street, when he should have siated it owas on the north side. Geo. W. Donn.— Witness, about the years 1835, °6-7, &c., Was & member of the firms of Donn & Bro., and Bobler & Donn, and witness referred to the books, and exhibited entrees of goods sold to Vol. Larned, and delivered at Mrs. Brown's; among other articles was a cradie. John Bush,(colored.)— Witness was frequently at Mrs. Brown’s house, on B street, and had seen Tillotcon Brown there, but he does not tbink tbat Tillotson visited Mrs. Brown until after Georgiana’s death. 4 Mrs. Elizabeth Roby, sworn— Witness was in “the Brown family for over thirty years. When the boys went to school they had but little money. When Tillotson was very ill, in 1345 or 1516, he stated that he was not the father of Emily or any other ehild. On another occa- sion Mrs. Wiley’s children came to see him, | sand witness told bim his grand children were ‘there, when he said, “They are not my grand hildren, but Emily Wiley’s children.” On cross-examination, witness stated that ‘the Brown family were much opposed to his keeping company with Mrs. Brown, and his futher, Jesse Brown, said if he did not quit uch company, he would cut him off. Remegius Burch, sworn.— Witness was doing some work at Mrs. Brown's in 1836 or 1347, and heard Mrs. Brown say that Mr. Brown was 4>t the father of Emily. John R. Grimes.—Witness beard Mrs. Brown ay that she took that name independent of Mr. Brown. ——.——— Tue ENROLLMENT BILL AMENDED— Three Hundred Dollar Clause stricken out.—The bill mamendatory of the Enroliment Act was passed Jest night in the evening session of the Senate, ‘Dy & vote cf 24 to 7, and ts as follows: Be it enacted, &c.. Thatso much of the act en- ‘titled “« An act for enrolling and calling out the mational forces, and for other purposes,” ap- proved March three, eighteen hundred and sixty-three, and the acts amendatory thereof, ss authorizes the discharge of any drafted per- son from liability or military service by reason of the payment of three hundred dollars forthe @rocuration of @ substitute, or otherwise, be, andthe same is hereby repealed: Provided, ‘That sething contained in this act shell be con- strued to alter the provisions of existing laws relative to persons actually farnishing substi- zutes. Sec. 2. That in calls for drafts hereafter mmade under the act for enrolling and calling out the national forces, and the acts in ad- dition to or amendatory thereof, the same may ‘be made for such term of time as the President enall direct, not exceeding one year. Sec. 3. That the number of men furnished trom any district for the service of the United States beyond and above its quota on calls theretofere made, and the term of service of such men shall be considered and allowed to said district in calls hereaf er made.
