Fardy & Bro., of Raltimore, whose graceful lines and smart look excite the aaimt- Yation of all who see her. She is called tie “Way wander, and is 130 feet long; 25, feet beam, and 11 feet depth of hold, ouilt of white nd live oak and iocust, and is copper fastened throughont, and is clipper rigged. Tpneangines are are oscillators of the most approved plan— strong and beantitully finished—and werecon- etruocted by Messrs. Hazlehurst & Weigand, of Baltimore, under the supervision of T.’ B. Stillman, of New York. The vessel, since she has been afioat, hos made several trial trips—one from Baltimore to Old Point and thence to the WNavy-Yard, and latterly a trip to Kelle Plain—giving very gen- eral satisfaction tothoseon board. Capt. Petre, of the steamship City of London, made one tri, on her, and expressed himeelf as delighted with the working of both vessel and engine. Capt. Petre is the pioneer of Atlantic steam naviga- tion, having commanded the first propeller ‘which crossed the Atlantic, and isa competent judge. She has not yet been driven up to her 5) » but on one occasion she has averaged 14 1-10 knots per hour for a distance of over one hundred miles. She carries a battery of six guns—one 30-pound Parrott on pivot and five 2i-pound howltzers—four broadside and one on pivot. The following are her officers: J. W. White, Captain; First Lieutenant and Executive Off- aer, D. Tompkins; S-cond Lieutenant, D. B. Hodgeden: Third J.ieutenant, Thomas Lay; Chief Engineer, A. M. Cumming: First Assist- ant, Frank Pulsifer: Second Assistants, Thos. ‘G. Melholiand, Jr., and J. E. Jeffries. The vessel is a credit to the city in which she was built, which has long been celebrated for her fast clippers, and the Messrs. Fardy (who have now one of the finest yards in Bai- timore, which has been kept busy with work tor the army and :avy,) may well be proud of such a vessel as they have just turned out, ag Well as the others engaged upon her and her engines. ———.———_. _ Potice Rerorts—Second Precinct—Freder- ick Labold, having stolen watch in possession; for further hearing. It appears that a soldier took a girl there, who he represented to be his cousin, and cailed for drinks—it being an ordinary occurrence for females to imbibe there—and she proposed «the Union,” which they drank. Two ef the servant giris took umbrage at this sentiment, and pitched in, quite a fight taking piace between the four; but the servant girls getting somewhat worsted, the reserve was called up—Mr. Rothchild and wife—and a regular knock down and hair pulling ensued, during which the girl with the Soldier was cut over the eye, as is supposed, witha knife. The soldier seeing that the odds were against him, made a retreat, getting off with the girl, and reported the facts at the eighth precinct station. He was directed to Justice Ferguson for redress. who referred him to Capt. Camp, at the Soldiers’ Rest; and the latter sent a guard to the house, who arrested Rothchild, the proprietor, and closed it up. Rothchild was committed to the Ventral Guard- house. It is believed that the establishment will be permanently closed, as rows are of fre- quent occurrence there, besides its being a place of resort for women of questionable char- acter. It has been closed three or four times before while it was known as the + Navy Hotel.” SS Fireta Warp Meetinc.—* There will be a mass meeting of the Union voters of the Fifth Ward on Friday ev-ning, May 27, at &¥ o'clock, at the Green House, 514 New Jersey avenue, to nominate a suitable candidate for Alderman. Let there be a grand raily, and sbow the wornout and hackneyed politicians what mechanics and workingmen can do.” In pursuance of the above call,a number of rsons assembled at the piace designated, and r. Richard McLaughlin was called to the chair, and Mr. Ellis t.yons was appointed sec- retary. On motion of Mr. Starkweather, Mr. R. W. Edmunds was nominated as the candidate for the Board of Aldermen.
