Dr. LIGHTHILL, from 34 St. Mark Place, New York, Author of “A Popular Treatise on Deafness,” « Letters on Catarrh,” will make “his second visit to WASHINGTON, MONDAY, Apriv 13th, &nd can be consuited at the Espitt House’ for ONE WEsK until Saturday evening, April 16th, on DEAFNESS, CATARRH, and all the various diseases of the EAR, THROAT, AND AIR PASSAGES. From the Rev. Fred. 8. Jewell, Professor 1 State Normal School, y, N.Y. This may certify that I have been, since 1814, subject to violent Penodical attacks of catarrh, marked by 8 highly intiamed conditien of the liLing membranes of the cavities of the head, producing a most distressing species of head- ache tor days at a time, wholly incapacitating me from business, and during the paroxysms confining me tothe bed. Insomeinstances the iufiemmation bas extended to the teeth, occa- sioning toothache ; to the threat, producing hourseness and partial logs of voice; and and twice it bas co affected he left eye as to con- fine me for a month or more to adarkened room. These attacks have been accompanied by strong febrile symptoms; by stoppage of the head, and, in the first etages, by watery discharg:s from the nose, subsequently becoming acrid and yellow, and towards the cloce of the attack becoming bloody and purulent. I have tried Medicines of almost every kind; external ap plications to the head, such as camphor, gin- ger, hot bandages, and fomentations of hot vinegar; snuffs of some half a dozen kinds, and othe: cstarrhal preparations, together with in- ternal remedies, such as alteratives, cathartics andemetics. These have produced no change in the occurrence or character of the disease, and, in most cases, with little or no temporary relief. I had come, at length, to believe the disease to be practically beyond either cure or material alleviation. Under these circumstances I was led some five months ago, to make atrial of Dr. Light- hill’s treatment. His method at onceapproved itself to my ncement, as simple, philosophi- cal, and likely to be effective. Notwithstand. ing the disadvantages under which he labored, in dealing with a disease of such long stand. ing, aggravated by nervous debility and dys- pepsia, and constantly induced by the acct- dents of my professional labor, I found the treatment reaching the diseas3 as it had never been reached before, and producing such a medification and alleviation of its character, as I had supposed impossine. I chronicle the results thus. Although I have been situated several timee, co that I should formerly have b lieved & severe attack of my c&tarrh inevita- bie. I have escaped thus far; the symptoms of threatened attack have been very light. and have yielded to the remedies employed by Dr Vighthill, without need of recourae to the old hot ferme: tations, or emetics; and the dischar- ges trom the head have resumed the original and natural condition. [ count upona com- piete cure. ThatI have heen abl+, however, to obtain e0 material a relief isto me a cause of gratitude. In that alone, Iam repaid for whatever the treatment may have cost me. I make this statement unsolicited, as a means ot acknowledgi. g my obligations to Dr. Liznt hil.’s method of treating catarrn, and witha view to aid any who may have suffered from that disease, in forming @ just opinion of its merits, and its probable atility in their own case. Freok. S Jaws, Prof State Normal School. Alvany, N. Y., March 14, 1564. Catarrh Cured. From Rev. R. P. Russet!, Lynn, Mass. I have been much troubled with Catarrh of the worst type for some twenty years. It gradually grew worse, producing congh and hoarseness, destroying the senae of smail, and breaking down my general health tosuch a degree 4s to compel me to resign my pastorate, and suspend public speaking. 4 made diligent use of the useful remedies, such as snuffs of different kinds, nitrite of silver, tar water, olive tar, and inhalations, but without any salutary eff-ctas Last sum- mer I beard of Dr. Lighthill's suceessfnl mode of treatirg catarrh, visited him, and put my- self under his treatment I began immadixte- ly to improve, and this improvement has zone on to the present time. My catarrh has grado- ally melted away, my cough has disappeared, my voice hrs become natural, and I am once more able to preach the blessed Gospel. Let me advise al! troubled with catarrhal diffical- ues to apply to Dr. Ligbthill. P. R. Russa, Lynn, Maes., Feb. 1, 1562 mh 3l-eo3w BALLS, PABTIES, &c. 1, 0. R. M. LOGAN TRIBE, No. 8, I. 0. RB.
