CANTERBURY.—It is only necessary for par- ties cesring to spend a pleasant evening to note the list of performers at Uanterbury, and the splendid bill in which they nightly appear, to be satisfied that they cannot go amiss by visitng this ball. Mcsornick, two sailors, who were creating much disturbance at Canterbury. The sailora were very unwilling to be confined in the ceils of the etation-honse, and resisted. O°’Donnell was the prisoner of Wulame, and fought hard, inflicting some se- vere bruises on the officer, but not withoat re- ceiving afew iff return. For afew minutes Mc(Gor- nist bad Handly down and nearly buried in the snow, but whenever he attempted to get up he found the little officer hada firm grip upeh him. A gentleman who lives near the spot went to the aid of the officers, and the prisoners were secured. They were taken to the #tstion-house and held for a hearing. ie CRIMINAL CovRT, Judge Fisher —Yesterday, Maria Phillips aliss Kauffman, indicted for keeping a bawdy honse, near the corner of New Jersey avenue and UH street, was conyict- ed snd sentenced to jafl for sixty days The case of E. W. W. and T. Griffin indicted under the oid English statutes for forcible encry and detainer, was taken up, District At- torrey Carrington, W. J. Miller, and W. Y. Fendail tor the prosecution, aad Messrs. Day- idge, Norris, and Utermehle for the defense. It will be recoliected that at the opening of this case the defense pleaded to the jurisdiction of the court and on their demurrer to the indict- the question was referred to the fall bench he jurisaition of the Criminal Court was sustained. The case was tried at the com- mencement of this term but the jury failed to agree, and it is cow being tried anew. Green, charged with linying @ lot of old iron which had been stolen from Solomon Feiz in their possession, arresi- ed by officer Sullivan, but they proved to have come into possession of it honestly and were dismiseed.
