Ulric Dahigren, who ‘was killed during the recent raid of Gen. Kil- patrick. y pay On the way up & collision occurred between the Harvest Moon and’ an anknown schooner, bout twelve miles below Smith's Point, about four o’clock yesterday morning. The schooner appeared fo be @ large coaler, apparently of abont 250 tons, and was bound down, and when first discovered was seen crossing the bows of the steamer. The pilot of the Harvest Moos, Mr. Geo Moore, immediately attempr- ed to sheer the steamer off, but sh struck tne schooner on her starboard quarter, carrying off ber rail. The steamer’s bow, about the water line, was stove in, and immediately the water commenced to enter, and in about an hour the fire-room floor was covered to the cepth of several inches. It being dark ut the time, and a heavy sea also running, the steamer could not stop to as- certain what damage was done the Schooner, which was soon lost sight of. The damage to the steamer rendered it necas- bary that every effort should be made to keep her afloat, and all hands were cailed out and the pumps gotto work. During the frat hour it is estimated that about sixteem thousand gal- lons of water were thrown out by the pumps. The Admiral in person superintended the stoppage of the leak, and the pumps being kept constantly at work, the steamer was brought eafely to the yard. Her masts will be taken out to-day, and she ‘will at once be drawn up on the railway, tha; the necessary repairs may be made, THB RECENT OPERATIONS IN NORTH CAR- OLINA, General orders No. «8, issued by Gen.
