Phillips as “Fouche,” and Herne as “ De Neuville,” were br gBatistaction. “The Rivals,” will be company Will undoubtedly give as great satis- fact.on as in the play of last night. Groves’s TABATHR.—At this resort the suc- eessinl play, “The Ticket-of- Leave Man,” will be performed jin. The cast of the play is one of the bes’ it could be made, as Mr. Gro- yer spared no pains to secure the best talent ‘that could be obtained. The scenery is all Bew, snd was gotten up expressly for this play. It is bound to have a run, and all who ‘would enjoy 8 good thing should see it. ‘WasuinGTon THEATHR.—Miss Laura Keene bas (idee the public a rare entertainment at “Washington Theater, in the admirable manner in which she bas produced the beautiful spec- tacular play, “The Sea of Ice, or the Mother’s Prayer.’ ‘he house bas been full to over- flowing nightly, and the audience, by frequent applause, showed their appreciation of the superb performance. Inthe play, “The Forest of Bandy, or the dog of Mentargis,” the sagacily of the dog, and the remarkable extent to whic! he can be trained, is fully developed. Song, dance and Ethiopian eccentricity will also be 8 part of the enterta nment. ge Deratrective Firs Lasr NicHT—The Presi- deni’s Stable and Horses Burnt.—Last nightabout 3 o'clock a fire occurred at the private stables ot President Lincoln, whereby the building, except that part used as a carriage house, was destroyed. The building was of brick, and con- tained at the time six horses, all of which were burned to death before they could be taken from the stable. Two of these horses, of a brown color, were the private property of the Presi- dert;a pur of bay blooded horses were owned by Mr. Nicolay, the President’s private secre- tary, while the remaining two ponies were those used by the President’s son, “‘Tad” Lin- coln. One of these ponies was all the more highly prized, in consequence of having once been the property of Willie, the deceased son of Mr. and Mrs. President Lincoln. Threa car- Tiagee were saved from destruction. Cooper, the President's private hman, left the stable to get his supper abouw#8 o'clock, and be was first notifi of the fire by the Prestdent himself, who discovered the smoke, but before any one could reach the stable it ‘was in flames. Early in the evening Mr. Nicolay had given Orders to the coachman to have his carriage in Teadiness at 9 o'clock, but the order was coun- termanded before the coachman left the stable, ‘and but for this fact he might have been in the stables at the time of the occurrence of the fire, and might probably have obtained some clue to its origin. A large crowd collected as soon as the alarm ‘Was given, and the different steam engines and fire companies of the city were on the grouad ina shorttime, but owing tothe combustible nature of the material within the stables, but Jittle could be effected by them other than pre- venting a further spread of the flames. The large quantity of old timber scattered over the gTonnds in the rear of the Treasury building made this quite & task for the time being. The building is a total wreck, and this morning Hon. B. B French Commissioner of Pablic Buildings, was promptly upon the grounds with con ractors and architects, making estimates preparatory to re-building. itis estimated that it will cost $12,009 to re- piace the stable. Cooper, the President's hackman, lost be- tween three and four hundred dollars in gold, which he had ina tronk inthe stable. Also, ail his clothing, saying nothing but what he bad on his back. Gol. L. C. Baker, Provost Marshal of the War Lepartment, was seriously injured by the ex- pleewn Os a gas pipe, a piece of which struck im in the breast, and knocked him senseless foratime. He suffered much all of last night. The fire is supposed to have been the work of &n incendiary. he stables were lighted with gas, the pipes of which protruded from the Wails of the building on either side, in the rear ot the horses, and all combustible matter was far removed from the jets, and there was no Rosubility of its taking fire from that cause. ie only other fire in the stable was in the stove, and it was not probable it caught there either, for there was no combustible matter in is media‘e vicinity, and, besides, the indi- « s are that the flre commenced in tha end oft building away from the stove. ‘The police were promptly on the spot, and officer Stinchcomb arrested a man by the name of Pa:t: rson McGee on suspicion of having set the stable on fire. Mc‘3ee was formerly a coacbman for the President, and was dis- charged yesterday morning, but was seen at thy stable about «ne hour before the fire was di: covered. He wus committed to jail for a hesring to-morrow morning at 10 o'clock. — THE ACCIDENT ON THE Dracon.—It ap- pears that the statements published concerning the accident on the gunboat Dragon on the 20th of January at Piney Point, were incorrect in som: particulsrs. The facts, as we get them from cne of the officers of the Dragon, appear to be as follows: As the Dragon was going Bicugside the Tulip to tow her into the coal- whart, @ stud-bolt in the back connection of her boiler blew ont, and the steam thereby es- caped, scalding six men, one of whom, Phillip Lane, died instantly, and another died the same day. Tse remaisder were brought to this city and placed in hospital, where they are bow doing well. On that occasion Acting En- siga Turner and the officers of the Drazon did everything in their power to alleviate the suf- feripgs of the men, Mr. Turner ordering the deck to be cut open to get them ont—the hatch- ‘way being found so small that the men could not be got out as quickly as was desired. Among those who distinguished themselves in risking their lives to save o'hers was Acting S-cond Assistant Engineer G. E. Riddle. From this statement it appears that the accident did Hot result from carelessness. Seg RURCLARIOvS IMT LEMENTS Focnp.—Last Srnday, come sittle boys wer- playing near the canal bridge at i2th street, and one of them, Ee win Pavis, discovered three sm ill tin boxes, 81h as are commonly used for tobacco safes, and six metal keys, concealed in a nook under tie plattorm by the dam. The little fellow thought he had discovered something valuable, a d carried them to Sergeant Tait, of the Sec- ord Ward police. The implements were used by some burglar’s key maker The boxes were filled with wax prepared to take impressions of keys, and one had been already used; and the impression of an iron safe key was com- ‘ple erm the wx, from which the burglar coald make a copy of the key that would operste on the safe lock as easily as the original. The six keys were for use on safes, but are newly cast, und the wards had not been cut to correspond swith the wax copies. One had no doubt been dried in some lock and proved a failure, as the ‘ward piece was broken from the barrel. The accidental discovery of ‘hose articles has proh- ably spoiled a rich job c: signed by some emi- nent professional burglar. Contributions of money are being received daily, and yesterday the president of the fair had the pleasure to acknowledge the receipt of 50 from Hon. Amos Kendall, of this city. os Tue Pusric Bui_minos.—The bill relating to the Commissioner of Public Buildings was reported back from the Committee on the Dis- trict of Columbia, in the Senate yesterday, with amencments. The bill, which gives the work pow in progress on the public baildings into the charge of the commissioner, as amended, exc pts sneb tra: r of the work on the Tretsury extension, and strikes out the pro- vision giving control of the office to the Presi- dent. ae ADMITTED TO PRacticz.—Oa Tuesday, on motion of Hon.
