RSet Te Hon. FERNANDO Woon's REcEPTION.—On burs¢ay evening last, Hon. Fernando Wood and lady, ot New York, had a reception at their mansion on H street, between 13th and 1th, ‘Which was attended by over tive hundred per- sons. Mr. Wood, aside from his wretched poli- tics, is an agreeable gentleman; and the large attendance was a decided compliment to his social qualities, including as it did a general representation of the membership of both Houses, withou: regard to party. Lord Lyons and Don Gabriel Tassara, of the Diplomatic corps, were present, also Judge Clifford, of the Supreme Court, together with many Offivers of the army and navy. Excellent music was provided, and late in the evening a magniilcent supper was served ™p. Mr. and Mrs. Wood, and Miss Wood did the honors of the evening. The party was un- doubtedly one of the most brilliant events of a Brilliant season. ete “Tue FUNERAL oF ConsuL GEeneRAt HITZ.— ‘The funera! of Jobn Hitz, Esq., Consul General of Switzeriand, took place from his late resi- dence, on Capitol Hill, yesterday afternoon, and was attended by a Jarge concourse of rela- tives and friends, among them President Lin- coln, Secretaries Seward and Usher, Attorney General Bates, Postmaster General Blair, As- sistant Secretary Seward, Professor Henry, Mayor Wallach, and Judge Olin. The diplo- matic Hes hada! largely represented, among otters by ‘on Stoecis!, Minister from Russia; Senor Taesara, Spanish Minister; Schleiden, Miuister for the Hanseatic Towne; Count Pour- tales, Coast Survey; Count Piper, Minister of Sweden; Blondeel de Ouelebroock, Minister of Belgiom; Lisboa, Minister of Brazil; Bocca- nesre, Portuguese Minister. The body was attired in a tull suit of black cloth, and the appearance of the corps extremely maiural. The coffin (which was made by Har- ‘yr & Co., the undertakers) was of mahogany, covered with biack cloth, and was mounted ‘with silver, three heavy handles on each side, with a silver plate on the top, containing the wrame, with date of birth and time of death of the deceased. ‘Lhe ceremonies at the house were conducted ‘by Rev. Dy. Channing, Chaplain of the House of Reprecentatiyes, and Rev. S. B. Finekel of the German Lutheran church, each of whom delivered short addresses, paying a high but just tribute to the memory of the deceased; after which the corpse was removed to the hhearse—M. R. Schieiden, Minister from the Hanseatic Towns, G. A. Natile of the Interior Department, Count F. L. Pourtal of the Coast Survey, Major B. B. French, James Adams, sand John Cranch, pal!-bearere—and the’sol- emn peocestion was formed, the Swiss Relief Society leading, and wended its way to the Congressional cemetery, where the exercises were conducted by the ciergymen, and after the Swiss Society had sung 3 funeral dirge, the coffin was lowered in the grave. Morrisey, then with crutch in one band, and koife in the other, defied the officers, but Sergespt Newman came up and he was s+evred and taken to the station, when Justice Ferguson ordered him to be locked up until suber. ——_~.____ A DisTRESSING CasE.—Thursday afternoons officer Morrice arrested Julia Borke for being drunk apd disorderly, and took her to the Fourth Ward statiou-nouse. There she was troubled with delirium tremens, and in the little cell where she was imprisoned she fancied she saw all the terrific objects which persons <0 sffected commonly imagine. She is a mar- Tied woman, about tbirty years of age, and the uncther of several children. She is connected with a wortby family. Her husband, brothers and triends sre exceedingly distressed her behavior; the husband being obliged to taxe his chijéren and part with her.
