SS a CHRISTMAS AT THE VARIOUS HosPITaLs.— At Emory great preparations had been made for a good Christmas dinner, and flags, eyer- greens and mottoes cecorated the walls. After a sumptuous dinner had been partaken of, the visitors were entertained with a concert of Ethiopian and other melodies by the soldiers. Tbese entertainments have been found to have a good effect on the patients. Hon. Chas. Sam- ner visited this hospital. At Judiciary Square, the dinner was got up under the superintendence of Mrs. Dr. Smith, and was one of the moft creditable affairs of the day. ‘ Armory Square Hospital was decorated for ppties with tables loaded down with all desirable delicacies and substantials. The Chaplain, Rev. E. W. Jack- presented by the patients witha hand- some gold watch. The patients at Lincoln Hospital also had something more provided them than on or: nary Gays, and were gratified by a visit from Senator Sumner. The 300 patients of Douglas hospital partook of @ protusion of delicacies and substantials, and were visited by Senator Morgan of New York. Stanton hospital was visited by the Secretary of War, Senators Morgan and Wilson, and others, and felicitous remarks were made by the two former. This hospital was dressed in evergreens with admirable taste, and the din- ner provided was equal in al! respects to those prepsred elsewhere. Rowpyism.—In the northern section of th ' city yesterday there were several arrests made of parties for assauit and battery and rowdy. ism. Jchn Diges, colored, was arrested for an assault and battery on William H. Degges Degges was walking along L street, at Tith. smd was met by Diggs and three other © red men, who attacked him and strack hima yio- Jent blow on the h with @ stoae or brick The whole party then joined in general’batrer ot Degges with stones. They were arrested by patrolman Maloy. Wm. Washington and Frank Gordon, col- ored, were arrested for an assault and battery with intent to »upon Jebn Lenrigan and Herry B. Westerfield, two soldiers of the In- valid corps, at the Contrabandcamp. The as- sault was, according to tne evidence, wholly unprovoked. Lenrigan, though badly beaten, appeared and testified; but Westerfield was so of Knoxville. The county between Bean’s Staticn and Morristown has been cleared of the enemy. Only 300 prisoners were captifred in the engagement at Bean’s Station, asthe men stopped to pillage the wagor train, which was loaded with coffee, sugar, canvassed hams and shoes. But for this, many more might have been captured. Reports from below state that Imboden and Echols have curroynded the Salem raiders, and the entire party will probably be capturad. The enemy have burned their Wagons and destroyed their artillery to prevent their fall- ing into our hands. The railroad between this point and Lynchburg will be @ running ordcr by Saturday. ‘The £nquirer claims that the feod prospects ™m Virginia are as favorableas could be desired, and, from a comparison with the consumption of the past two years, assumes that on the ist of February, 1561, there will be in the counties of the State of Virginia within the Confederate lines 100,000 horses, 400,000 cattle, 500,000 hogs, and 550,000 sheep. The cattle and hogs, the Enquirer thinks, would give 150,000,000. pounds of meat, not counting the sheep. But these re- sources are in the hands of the people, and not of the Government, and the former are there- fore urged to contribute liberally. But not- withstanding this big boast of large resourc? we notice by the Richmond market report that bacon is $3.25 per pound, becf 75 to 55 cents, and pork $2.25.
