Jones then ‘went off to his guard, and after taking a mas- ket for his own use, and loading it,commanded his guard to follow him, but before he reached the parties he was arrested. Jones is a stal- wart fellow, six feet or more high i Scrrosep ROBBERY AND RECOVERY OF THE Money.— Yesterday, Elizabeth White, the col- ored woman who keeps the eating stand in the portico of the City Hall, complained to the Me- tropolitan Police that $500 had been taken from her room sometime between Monday nizht and | O8F lith street and Ps. avenue, Washington, and w-terday morning. Detectives Clarvoe and | Henry Cook Alexandria. ja €1; ‘Mc Devitt were charged with the duty of inves- tiguting the matter, and the former, after a search, found the money in a wardrobe in the house of Mrs. White, which ,is also occupied by one or two other famifies. It is also suggested that Mrs. hite herself (whos said to be very forgetful) jJaced the money where it was found, and forgot what disposition she had made of it.
