Brady and Eaton, of the executive committee of the association, called upon Major Turner, at his house, and were ina few minutes enabled to make the explanation, the opportunity for which had been abruptly denied to the helpless prisoner. The result of these interviews was that Mr. Williamson was released about 6:15 p. m. the same day of his arrest, Major Turner being fully satisfied of his innocence. Your committee has but few remarks to make in concluding this statement. No one can doubt the purity ot Mr. William- son’s conductormotives. Heacted undercom- petent authority, paid promptly to the treasurer of the association the entire proceeds of the sale. ard is wholly acquitted of blame. This ascociation has no more faithful mem- ber, and we bear public testimony to the zeal and fidelity with which he has discharged his duty ‘Mr. McPherson, in presenting the report, said the committee had thought it proper to submit the full facts of the case to the meeting before taking any action as to the motion adopted to petition the removal of Col. Baker. Mr. Williamson here gave a statement of his arrest and imprisonment. and of his ineffectual efforts tomake anexplanation. He was treated by all at Col. Baker's office and the Old Capi- tol with respect, éxcept by Baker himself and Judge Turner. At the Old Capitol, where he was put into a cell not ever clean, he was treated in the best manner. A conyersational debate here ensued, during which the Chairman stated that Mr. William- #on was not fully released, but was on ‘parole, and the course of Col. Baker was commented upon with some bitterness. If such acts were to be committed when an officer of a relief as- sociation performs his duty, the Government may with propriety assume complete control of all the associations. , Mr. Williamson stated that he wished the report to be published in Pennsylvania. He had ever been true to his country. He had rescued the wife of a Pennsylvania soldier | from the third story of ahouse of i fame in broad daylight, at the risk of his lite and ehar- acter; restored her child to her, and sent her home to her friends. His arresthad been pub- lished far and wide, and_ he wished to be set right before the world. It had been statedthat Judge Turner would release him if “he pre- sented @ written certificate from the officers of the association that his course was consistent with tho rules of the association, and that he was duly authorized to make the sale; but he thought Judge Turner was the person to make the advance, and he sppenied to the sssocia- tion to act promptly aud decisively. The chairman wae here called out, and on his return informed the meeting that Col. Baker had called to have a private: conversa- tion. with him, but he declined to hold any at that time. The President was directed to furnish Judge Turner with a certificate that Mr. Williamson had acted under the sanction of the officers of the association. During the conversational debate, it was stated that the property sold consisted of dam- aged lint, &c., and that the aseociation had on hand enough lint tosupply the Army of the Potomac for months, bat that its use had been discarded by the medical authorities. The soldiers in the hospitals often were in want of delicacies which the association had not on hand im sufficient quantities, and by selling such articles as could not be used, they could procure such delicacies as are needed. — Forp’s New THEaT — The beautiful drama, “The Pearl of Savoy,” is to be pro- duced ag, this evening at this fashionable resort.
