We went in and found some six or eight other persons there, of whom Mr. Brant Was one of the number. I then walked through the store into the back foor, «nd found u girl there, and while we were tajking Mr. Brant came up and asked me what business I had there. I teld him I thought I had as much right there as he had, when he Tuck me cn the breast, knocking me off the oor-sill into the yard. I then wentout inthe street and got a stone, and went back and asked him what authority he had for striking me. He then showed me a badge which he had con- cealed under his coat, which I took tobe a fireman's badge, and put ont my hand to ex- amine it, when he shoved me off very roughly. I then strnck him with the stone. He imme- diately drew his pistol, and said if I struck him again he would shoot me. We then had some words, and while | was talking to him he shot me. @ was net called into the place to quell any disturbance; he was there before I got there.
