V._ Terrill proved that he took it irom Simms. Simms proved to be a lugitive from the county jail, from whence he escaped Tuesday. Williams proved that he Was not fighting, but trying to separate the others when arrested. Justice Ferguson fined Terrill $2.94: Simms was ordered to pay alike sum, but was subsequently delivered to the Marshal's officers: Williams was dismissed, und the pistol was retained, to be delivered to the owner, when demanded. aria aaa et ATTEMPT TOSWINDLR.—Tuesday night, offi- cer Lyncharresteda young man named Niche- las Brady for attemptng to swindle a man named George Williams, in Marble Al- ley. Williams is a sailor, and had over sixty dollars on his person, and also a revolver. Yesterday morning, Williams said he hag was after, and was prepared to meet his ad- vances. He had his revolverin his hand all the time that Brady was fooling with him, end his intention was to shoot B. the moment he touched his pocket. Johnson’s detectives urrested Isaac Ariel, a deserter trom the 7th Massachusetts regiment, on the charge of al- tempting to go as asubstitute. Ariel deserted his regiment some months since, and has passed much of his time in prison, under the aliases of Charles Marrs, _— Myer and — Collins.
