It ap- pears that they, Im company with three other young men, Richard Hill, George Kelly and ‘Edward Thompson, went into the lot south of the President's, and were lying in the shade, when two women came along and took off the hats of two of the party, with which they promenaded near a party of teamsters, a short distance off. One of the teamsters took a hat from one of the women, and when she informed the young men they went and demanded it, | and the teamsters refused to give it up. Thomp- son and one of the teamsters passed some words, and « fight ensued, in which the team- ster was whipped. The teamsters then ran | off, but shortly afterwards returned in larger numbers, and a stone fight took place, in which ; ‘Thompson was severely cut on the head: the | teamsters being driven off, and going in the di- | rection of Fourteenth street The young wen thinking that the teamster ‘would not return, went in bathing in the canal above the locks, and on coming out the team- sters this time numbering about twenty-five, approached the party, and one of them de- masnded to fight Thompson, wheu Geo. Unfortunately. however, they were to late to catch any of the attacking party, but it is to be hoped that the efforts they are now making ta discover the guilty s will prove successful. | LEAVING position part of many of our citi just at this time, to leave the dnst and in ot the populous city for country air—although there seems to be an abundant “draft” here- abouts. But, probably, that’s really what's the matter! In this category are eight who left Monday night, and who, by the way, happened to draw Ree Monday at Captain Scheetz’s lottery. These exits are made through all the different lines of trayel leading from the city. Some preter going by water, as did the eight above alluded to, who left in the steamer from Georgetown. Others take the cars, while others Again prefer walking. We learn that it is in contemplation by the authorities to interfere | ‘very seriously with the arrangements of these pleasure-hunters by placing sentinels at the ‘wharves and depots and requiring a certificate from those who propose leaving. The Navy Department bas issued o1eers, we believe, to receive no more volunteers at the Washington yard for the volunteer naval service until the draft is over im this city. — Ropsertes.—On Saturday last Mrs. Mar- ret Tennant, residing on E street, between | ‘wenty-first and Twenty-second streets, was robbed of #370 in Treasury notes, which was locked up in a bureau.
