LOCAL NEWS. AMUSEMENTS TO-NIGHT. Grovsr’s THEATER—*“Jessie Brown, or the Relief of Lucknow,” is announced again for this evening's performance at Grover’s. It is ‘the last oppertunity but one that our citizens will have of witnessing this beautiful play. Besides, it should also be borne in mind that ‘the present is the last weeir of the season, and the last of Mr. Grover’s stock company, as at present constituted. CAN?ERRURY ts the only place of amuse- ment in Washington, we believe, which flour- ishes prosperously through the entire year; keeping open summer and winter, spring and autumn. There is no diminution whatever in the numbers nightly in attendance, and the fact is due to the excellent performance nightly offered. Varteties.—A good bill of song, dance, &e., is announced for this evening's entertainment at the Varieties. Agnes Sutherland, Denny Gallagher, Johnny Wild, Dick Watkins, Ad- die Johnson, and other favorite performers, will appear. Fitzsimmous’ version of the drama “Six Degrees of Crime,” will also be pertormed. ments nightly. Duetts, trios, scenes, and whole acts from the most prominent English, German, and Italian operas, are performed in such 4 manner as to elicit much applause. It appears that the deceased went into the house, and that the barkeeper, Charles Peters, put him out, as he (P.) alleges, for insulting a lady who was present. The deceased picked up a stone and threw it in the window and another aguinst the side of the house, when some one shot trom the window, the ball entering his right breast, passing through his lungs and heart, and lodg- ing in the leftside, killing himinstantly. Peters attempted to escape, but officers Boose ind O'Hara, being near by, arrested him and took him before Justice Rowland, who committad him to jail for aturther examination.
