Jn the Common Council last evening a mes- sage was received from the Mayor relative to the remeval of the depots of the Washington and cepects wn R. R. Co. trom Georgetown, | im which he states that abouta year ago, in A conyereation with gentlemen, principals in es- tablishing this road, he, after learning that they intended establishing a depo: in Georgeiown, | a2 told them they ceuld not ask any aid or patron- age that would not be heartily extended to them ; but that he soon learned an effort was being ’made to induce the company to remove sheir concern from Georgetown and make it a fixture of Washington city, and being deter- mined to give them no excuse to abandon our town, he allowed them, without imterference or complaint, to do as they pleased, under law or against law, and that they, when informed of this, complimented him for his great liber- a itheir charter, he states, gaye them the power to commence their road line ‘on Bridge street, at the intersection of High, or at such pointon Street, cast thereof, as the cor; au- thorities of Georgetown may designate; that the road, ao far as it is within our limits, shall be subject to the regulations of our corpora- tion, and that it shall be deemed real estate, (which has never been done on our part,) and taxed as such, and that any other real or per- sonal property of theirs shall be taxed accord- ingly. Tha whole of these facts prove that he hes kept his promise tothem, thgt they might do as se pleased in all respects. e thinks it is clear, therefore, that they can have no just cause for complaint, or for re- moval, but that their removal is only to grant a wholesale monoply of the local benefits of the concern to W&shington city; that the pre- fences that Mr. Vanderwerken asks too much for his property, is flimsey, &c., &c. He says he does not propose to strike swords with the company, but most earnestly recom- mends that this Corporation have an eye to xuch licences and taxes as we may require in the future.
