This school is taught by Miss M. J. Mill’, and has euffered serious drawbacks during the year. At the commencement of the year this was a mixed school, composed of equal numbers of boys and gis, but it has ‘been converted mto a maleschool. From Seps tember to January there was no permanent room in which it could be held, and, in con- junction with Miss Robinsom’s echool, was held in the Union Engine-House, a half hour per day being devoted to its sessions; and du- ring this time many of the parents took their children away. There are 59 names on the ro}l, of whom 46 were present, some being detained by sickness. The school was organized in October last of new material, and a portion of this is of the primary grade in order to attord accommodation for the neighborheod. Some of the scholars are very small, and the small- est elass, the members of which class were ia their A, B, C’s when the sciaodl opened, reid easily in small words. The first class showed themselves to be excellent spellers, and nearly every one of them recited the eighteen rules for spelling. ‘The second divisions of the second s ditt not miss one word in spelling. ‘ue singing here was quite a feature. In most of the secondary schools there are but three classes, but this school being the only one south of the Avenue, (in this disirict,) and in a thickly settled neighborhood, the tr ees and teachers have thought best to haye the primary branches taught, and among the scholars are some of the smallest that are at- tending the school, and the examination of these little classes was a feature of much in- wrest.
