A Mevement Made by Ge: Attack en Baltimere K3 New Yorx, June 21.—A Shippensburg dis- patch to the Herald says the bridge at Seotland will be repaired to-night, when communioca- tion tc Chambersburg will be resumed. Itis rumored that the rebel movements alarm the jarmers, who don’t know what todo with their cattle. A Harrisburg dispatch to the Herald states that Jenkins paeeed through Greencastle last evening, with seven hundred mounted infan- try, in the direction ot Waynesboro. He had ambulances, and three or four days’ rations. The rebels are reported to have sixteen pieces of artillery with theirlarge torce. Theyoceupy the econth bank of the Potomac from Cumber- land to Harper's Ferry, and Rhodes has wwen- ty thousand men at Williamspert. Theepinion in official circles at Marrisburg is, that the rebels have serious designs on Buitimore. Their movements indicate this, and fears are enter- mined for the safety of that city. One rumor is that the rebels, forty thousand strong, are between Williamsport and Hagers- town. Three hundred rebel cavalry have firea Mercersburg in several places. A Chambersburg dispatch says if the rebels remain where they are you may expect afight before Tuesday. To-night they are Picketing -the road a ehort distance this side of Green- castle. The rebels are scouring the country for horses, and have got about two thousand head of cattle and about two thonsand horses. They are reported near Waynesboro and Gettysburg. Yesterday six thousand infan- ty, it is reported, crossed at Williamsport, but it is not believed they will visit Frederick. The enemy has nearly six thousand infantry this side of the Potomac, under Gen. Rhodes. Two regiments of intantry and a squadron of caval- ry are at Sharpsburg. The remainder are encamped between Williamsport and Hagers- town. No artillery has been sent over, nor have any troops crossed siace esterday morn- ing. Gen. MrwPruis, June I, via Cairo, June 20.—The steamer Imperial has arrived here bringing official advices from Gen. Grant’s army to Monday, the 15th inst. The rebels opened a vigorous fire with ar- tillery and musketry, along the whole line, keeping it up nearly the whele of that day. At times their firing was furions. but it was with- out much eftect. The rebels placed their mor- tars out ot the reach of our guns and sharp- shooters, trom which they fired aboutonehun- dred shells at our trenches, but only wound- ing two or three of our men. The siege is being pressed with vigor on all sides. The defenses in onr rear are being | strengthened. Gen. Johnston is evidently raid to make an attack on them. MeEmPuis, June 15, via Cairo,—In the fight between Johnston and Grant, on the 6th of June, about 700 Confederate prisoners were captured, 150 of whom arrived yesterday. In conversation with one of the prisoners, a fore mer resident of the city, I learn that Johaston in that engagement had 15,000 men. Johnston could not hold his position. A man has arrived from the interior of this State, who is directly from the rear of John- ston’s army, who says that Johnston can do nothing towards dislodging Grant with his present force; that in-every attack he‘has suf- fored severe loss in killed and wounded. Lam told by two gentlemen trom the rear of Price’s army, who left on the 9th, that that offi- cer had a large force in the vicinity of Milli- ken's Bend, and that he was destroying cotton sheds and gins in all directions. WHEELING, June 20.—The State of West Vir- ginia is now a fixed fact. Hon. A. J. Borman was to-day inaugurated as its first Governor. Business was universally suspended, and the citizens turned out cn masse to usher in the new State. Many business houses and resi- dences were gaily decorated with flags. The celebration of the day was closed with a bril- liant display of fireworks. In the firing of the national salutes, Capt. Morris W.
