[From the Baltimore Sun, Jun? 15.) For several days past various rumors haye | been in circulation in relation to alleged move- ments of the Confederate army in Virginia. | Fy information received from the mil.tary authorities of this department we are enabled } to give the foilowing highly important par- | Uculars: On Friday it was asce d that a | body of Confederates were moving Shenandoah yalley, on the Strasburg and trom other directions. '¥y pre Maj. Gen. Schenck to mee: om. pickets, « few mites trom Win- chester, encountered them on Saturday morn- ing. and later in the day a general engagement took place between Gen. Milroy’s forces at and near Winchester and the Contederates. The latter were repulsed in this engagement, losing a@ number of prisoners. Their loss in killed and wounded was suid to be severe. From the prisoners taken it was ascertained that the force a ing Gen. Milroy was Lieut. Gen. Ewell’s corps, variously estimated at from ten to eighteen thousand men. The battle was reneweg on Saturday after- nocn, and again yesterday, and was in progress at leastadvices. Gen. Milroy’s command is es- timated at about 10,000. He has telegraphed Maj. Gen. Schenck that he can hold out until reinforcements cau reach him. On Saturday afiernoon, Col. McReynolds, with a force of 3,000 men, stationed at Berry- ville, (between Harper’s Ferry and Winches- ter, about eight miles gouth of the Winchester road,) was ulso attuckél by a body of Confed- erates. The fight was said to be a very severe one. Subsequently, Col. McReynoids renewed the engagement, and at a late hour yesterday eve- ning it was thought by the military authorities that he had succeeded in catting his way through to reinfczce Gen. Milroy, who was. still fighting near Winchester. About 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon a body of Confederates, said to number from three to five thousand, appeared in the vicinity of Mar- tinsburg, and demanded the surrender of that place. This force, it was thought, was a por- tion of the Contederates who had attacked Gen. Milroy’s command. Brig. Gen. Dan‘1 Tyler, in command of the Yederal forces at Martiusburg, declined to ac- cede to the request to surrender, and at seven o'clock last evening aseyere engagement was progressing. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad was, at last accounts, uninjured. The freight and passen- ger trains, both West and East, passed safely throngh on Saturday. A large number of freight trains arrived at Mt. Clare depot yes- terday from Mt. Airy. They contained a large umount of freight from the Ohio country, that had been detained by the late raids on the west- ern end of the roads. The freight and passenger trains on the main stem, between here and Cumberland, will be suspended urtil the military troubles on or near the road are over.
