A big crowd speedily collected, and five par- ties were arrested, viz: Henry Mack, (white,) and Jas. H., William H., William and Lemuel Beckett, (colored,) and they were all taken be- fore Justice Clayton for a hearing. A number ef witnesses were summoned, but the testimony ; Was so conflieting thatii was almost impossible to get head or tail out of the affair. From all that could be gathered, it seems that Henry Mack (white) is engaged in Inbo- { rers work about Fourteenth street. While } wheeling a barrow in which was a pick, past } William Beckett's hack, the noise trightened j the horses, and caused “hem to make a back- ward move. Beckett t d Mack not to frighten his horses, and the la er retorted, applying some epithets to Beck :t, and threatening to knock bim off his hack-box. Sharp words en- sued, and the result was a fight. Beckett's brothers coming to his assistance. Mack got a blow with a brick on the back of the head, and Wm. Beckett had his head so badly cut that the blood ran down his face— nothing very serious, however. Other parties ed in, and pickaxe handles, stones, bric! ips, fist-, &c., were ysed freely, and blows were given and taken, but who did the striking did not fully appear; and the justice therefore concluded to consider the case simply one of disorderly conduct. and fined James H. and Wm. L. Brown, of Georgetown, had a horse stolen from him, and on Monday last found the animal exposed for public sale at the corner of Seventh and D streets. Mr. Brown claimed the animal, which was given up by the then owner, who said he bought him from a boy named R. H. Williams. The boy was arrested by officer Themas, who took him be- fore Justice Johnson. Williams said that he bought the horse from Louis Chisley, who ‘was also arrested..
