GENERAL GRANT'S STRATEGY. A correspondent of the Cincinnati « “Times,” writing from General Grant’s army on the 13th, Ba : tr your readers will but look at the map they ‘will to some extent realize the daring of the presen: move of Gen. Grant. It cannet be contraband to inform them now, for. long ere you will receive this, the most splendid deed ox daring—cne that shall plac his name above that of all others in this wee will be won by | his army, or all will be lost in irretrieyable dereat. Yeu will observe that he landed sixty miles below Vicksburg. Of course all thought that tbe object was that city direct. Nothing of the kind. «The darling object was Haines’s Biufi, en the Yazoo river, only eight miles from where wenow lie. It is not his intention to go nearer Vicksburg thau Jackson; destrey all | commissary stores, the railway bridge; wait there long enough to make sure of provisions to meet his destination. Todo this—to march through hot sun, through a hostile country, carry all the equipage for so many, ammuni- ton and arms—is More than a less braye man could dare. Haines’s Bluff reached, communication is open agnin. The enemy think him going for their stronghold. They have sent an xrmy to cutoff bis retreat Instead of advance. So much inour hand. This fleet lies at the month of the Yazoo, ready to bear him provisions if he succeeds, The Bloff is the key to Vicksburg. Military men say that it is @s good as au open door.
