Grovy8i's THEATEE.—This ia also a benefit night a1 Grover's, Mr. Edwia Adams being the recipient and his contribution to the en- jo: mert of oar theater-goers certainly deserves a banceome fmturn. He plays “Robert Lan- dry" in the «Dead Heart,” and there is no doubt bot he will, as heretofore, give entire satisfaction. He will be supported by Susan Denin and others. Swiss Ke.t Rincers—The Peak Family offer nightly at Willard's Hall a rare and ele- €ant enteriainment. While attending upon their performances one realizes to the fullest extent that h. re ia «music he hells.” Added to the tintinabulations of th rry how- yer, are the fine yocal and insirumentai per- formances of the troupe, which are by no myans the smallest attraction. CanTERsURY.—To the already euperabuan- dant variety of the Canterbury enter‘ainments Manager Sinn has lately added another f-ature in the shape of dramatic entertainments, which would do credit to more pretentious theaters. «Jack Sheppard” will be performed to-night, together with songs, dances, and Ethiopian en- tertainments. Matinee to-morrow afternoon. Russian Wan.—This fine series of paint- ings, illustrative of the most prominent acenes in the Crimean war, is on exhibition for a few nights longer at Odd Fellows’ Hall. Balt of the Perseverance Fire Com takes place this evening, at Temperance aera eers Fivta Warp PoLiticaL Mggtina.—A large number of the voters of the Fifth Ward assem- bled last night in Ward's building, pursuant to the following cull: ‘Notice.—The yoters of the Fifth Ward, who re friends and supporters of the Administra- ion in its efforts and measures to quell the re- bellion and maintain the Union, are requested to meet at Ward's Building, corner Second street and Pennsylvania avenue, on Thursday evening, May 7, at7 o'clock. “B B. Frencu, ON. SARGENT, “J, M. BRopukap.” The meeting was called to order by Alder- man Brodhead, who nominated Alderman N. Sargent as chairman. Mr. Robert T. Knight was appointed secretary. Mr. E. L. Stevens then offered resolutions making & declaration or principles, pledging theirearnest support of the Administration, which were adopted. N. B. Northrup (of the « Guardian” socie- ty,) called attention to the confusion that had existed at the last meeting in the Fifth Ward, @ud he thought it should be a warning, and he therefore moved the appointment of a commit- tee of three, who should act as supervisors in this election tor candidates, and have power to Teject the yotes of all known to be secession- ists, or of those opposed to the Administration; which motion was adoted, and Messrs. G@u- lick, E. L. Stevens and Alexander Eaton were appointed said committee. It having been then decided that the commit- tee should take position in the center of the room, and that the yeters should pass bet ween them and deposit their ballots; nominations were made for Aldermen, and Messrs. J. M. Brodhead, (preeent incumbent,) G. F. Gulick, Chas. Canfield and Robt. T. Knight, (members of Common Council,) were nominated. Messrs. Canfield and Knight declined, and the contest was therefore between Messrs. Brodhead and Gulick. While the balloting was going on, Captain Darfing, of New York, Chief of the Capito! Police, and bogus delegate to the gathering which assembled in Temperance Hal! a little Over & week ago and nominated Mr. Richards tor Coliector, made himself decidedly conspic- uous in the room, after the modest manner usual to gentlemen from other States who are So good as to undertake to regulate municipal affairs here to save the citizens of Washington the trouble. Finding that his high-cockalorem airs frightened nobody, and that he, absolutely Ar—Capt. N. Darling—Capt, Nathan Darling— Capt. Nathan Darling, of the Capitol police— was held in the Fifth ward as a potatoe of only moderate dimensions, he bimmed on his hat with an air, buttoned up three brass buttons of his handsome blue coat with eat vigor and intrepidity; let off the cheap and angry assertion that his opponents were secesh, (but declining to make good his words on being invited so to do.) and made his exit. When the yotes were counted it was found that Mr. Brodhead had 16, and Mr. Gulick 62, whilethree were cast ior Mr. John Grinder. Mr. Gulick was therefore declared the nom- ny all. inee. The following gentlemen were nominated for Common Council, viz: Messrs. R. T. Knight, C. Canfield, (present incumbent,} E. L. Ste- vens, John Grinder, and R. P. Ferguson. The yote stood—Charles Canfield, 61; R. P. Fergu- son, 76; R. T. Knight, 54; John Grinder, 31; and E_L. Stevens, 21. Meeers. Ferguson, Canfield, and Knight were therefore deciared the nominees. The nomina- tions were then made unsnimous, and the meeting adjourned.
